The Error and Danger of Naming Riba as Murabahah, and Is There a Difference Between Installment Sales and Riba
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And part of their deviation from the Shari'ah is that they name this transaction murabahah. My brother, you are neither the owner, the buyer, nor the seller. Where is the profit? The profit is only the compensation for this loan. What you did was not to hand it over to the buyer's hand, but to hand it over to the seller, the merchant, and you took the increase from the buyer in exchange for the good loan. The matter is very clear, and I do not know why people are heedless and unaware? There is no difference. Let us imagine the following scenario: I am a rich man, and this is a needy man, and this is the merchant who sells shoes, iron, a car, a refrigerator, or anything. He comes to me and says, "Lend me one hundred dinars." I say to him, "Why? I want to buy, for example, an appliance or iron or whatever it is. Go, buy it from our friend here, and I will pay for you." He says, "May Allah reward you." I paid the merchant one hundred and took from him one hundred and ten. This is lawful. But if I gave him the one hundred and said, "Go, buy it from him yourself, and pay him with your own hand," and I took from him one hundred and ten, this is forbidden. What is the difference between the two scenarios, people? There is absolutely no difference. It is a cycle and a turn, yes. And this is a very grave matter in the religion, because this is the action of the Jews, as stated in the Qur'an and in the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
