Continuation of the discussion on the issue of selling what one does not own.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : From among such incidents that we feel in our time today, we praise Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for sending to us a Messenger from among us who teaches us the Book and wisdom. Wisdom is the Sunnah, which allows us to walk with insight. Among its teachings is
Do not sell what is not with you. لا تبع ما ليس عندك
Sunan Ibn Majah 2187Hasan (Darussalam)
So this is a third violation. We actually understood something different from what you explained last, but even if you bought this item with your own money and put it in a corner of your father’s shop while he was unaware, and that buyer came and you sold it to him, and you profited from it and put the profit in your pocket, my previous statement stands: this is not permissible if done secretly from your father. Either you must be open with your father and tell him the reality, that I am now a man and I need such and such, and so on. If you are married, you have children; if you are not married, you want to get married, and so on. So I need a salary, I need a pension. I am your son, but I feel that I am in need. As for doing something secretly without your father’s knowledge, even if we assume that this sale, which is selling what you do not have, was permissible in the Shari'ah, this is not permissible. How much more so when two violations coincide: a violation of the Shari'ah and a violation of the father? Because if the father learns of this action of yours, he will not be pleased with you.
