Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : However, one of these hadiths, while indicating what this phrase indicated,
Every innovation is misguidance. كل بدعة ضلالة
drew attention to the fact that the innovation intended in such a Prophetic maxim is innovation in religion. He said, (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected. مَن أحدَثَ في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو ردٌّ
Sahih Muslim 1718a
. His saying, (peace and blessings be upon him), in this hadith, which is among the hadiths of the two Shaykhs in their "Sahihayn":
He who innovates things in our affairs مَن أحدَثَ في أمرنا هذا
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, is a qualification and clarification of the innovation that is misguidance, which is that which occurs in worship in religion. As for the innovation that has no connection to religion, it has other rulings, and we do not say that it is permissible; it may be permissible based on the well-known principle among jurists, which is their saying: "The original ruling for things is permissibility." However, this thing, which is among the matters of this world, often leads to what is forbidden in Islam; this has a different status and has no connection to the innovation intended to increase drawing near to Allah, (Blessed and Exalted is He).
