Tracing the hadith to its sources and discussing its chain of narration.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It was narrated by Ibn Abi al-Dunya, al-Tabarani, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih. It was also narrated by Ibn Majah from the hadith of 'Amr ibn Ghaylan al-Thaqafi, who is one of those regarding whose status as a Companion there is disagreement. His wording is: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O Allah, whoever believes in my and knows that what I have brought is the truth from You, decrease his wealth and his children, and make the meeting with You dear to him, and hasten his death. Whoever does not believe in me and does not know that what I have brought is the truth from You, increase his wealth and his children and make his life long.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4133Da’if (Darussalam)
The hadith with the first wording is authentic. As for the other wording, if the Companionship of the one named 'Amr ibn Ghaylan al-Thaqafi were established, it would also be authentic. Therefore, we limit our commentary to the first wording, which is the one narrated by Ibn Abi al-Dunya, al-Tabarani, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih.
