The Shaykh : The text of the Noble Qur'an divided people, in terms of knowledge and ignorance, into two categories: it made them scholars, who are those who understand the Book and the Sunnah, and their counterparts, the non-scholars, whom we mean by the ignorant, who are those who do not understand the Book and the Sunnah. So each of the two categories has its obligatory duty by the text of the Noble Qur'an. Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nahl 16:43] ... Who are the people of knowledge? The people of dancing in the so-called remembrance? Of course not. The people of knowledge are, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hijr 15:9] The people of knowledge are the people of the Qur'an. So ask the scholars of the Qur'an. And a scholar is not a scholar of the Qur'an unless he is a scholar of the Sunnah, because among what is in the Qur'an is: [An-Nahl 16:44] So the scholar is the scholar of the clarifying Qur'an and the clarifying Sunnah. The scholar of the clarified Qur'an and the clarifying hadith, which is the speech of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him: [An-Nahl 16:44] So we, the scholar is the one who says, regarding what he holds in all matters of religion, in everything he says: "This is what Islam says; Allah said; the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said." And whoever does not do so is not a scholar.
