The Shaykh’s mention of the famous hadith of al-Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), "The lawful is clear..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What confirms this reality for you is the hadith narrated by the two Shaykhs in their Sahihs from the hadith of al-Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Both lawful (Halal) and unlawful things (Haram) are evident but in between them there are doubtful things·and most people have no knowledge about them. So he, who saves himself from these doubtful things, saves his religion and his honor (i.e. keeps them blameless). And he who indulges in these doubtful things is like a shepherd who pastures (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. إن الحلال بيّن والحرام بيّن وبينهما أمور مشتبهات لا يعلمهن كثير من الناس فمن اتقى الشبهات فقد استبرأ لدينه ومن حام حول الحمى يوشك أن يقع فيه
Bulugh al-Maram 16:32
Before that,
And indeed, every king has a protected area, and indeed, the protected area of Allah is His prohibitions. And whoever encroaches upon the prohibited area is likely to fall into it. ألا وإن لكل ملك حمى ألا وإن حمى الله محارمه ألا ومن حام حول الحمى يوشك أن يقع فيه
he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and here is the point:
Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. ألا وإن في الجسد مضغة إذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله وإذا فسدت فسد الجسد كله ألا وهي القلب
Sahih al-Bukhari 52
In this hadith, there is an explicit statement of what we mentioned in the introduction, which is that the soundness of the heart is in the soundness of the body, and the soundness of the body is in the soundness of the heart. The matter of this spiritual or moral soundness and the connection between the body and the heart is exactly as it is in the physical, medical, material aspect. Just as a person’s body cannot be upright or sound if his heart is sick, and just as this heart cannot be sound and healthy if the body is sick and weak, so each of them supports the other in strength or weakness, as is the case in the material aspect. So it is the same in the spiritual and religious aspects. This hadith is authentic and explicit in this, because it says: if the body becomes corrupt, the heart becomes corrupt, and if the heart becomes corrupt, the body becomes corrupt
