The Shaykh’s warning against lying about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with mention of some hadiths indicating this.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And we see, with great regret, that most of today’s Islamic preachers do not pay any attention whatsoever to these two sciences. Rather, they are content merely to transmit what they wish to cite from the hadith from any book that falls into their hands, without distinguishing between authentic and weak narrations or verifying what they transmit. This is a failure to care for the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first, and secondly, it is a lack of response by these Muslims to the hadiths of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) which warn the Muslim not to narrate a hadith about him before verifying its authenticity. Everyone knows the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
Whoever lies about me deliberately and intentionally, let him take his seat in the Fire.
This is well known to everyone. However, there is a hadith containing a strong reminder for those who are lax in transmitting hadiths without verifying their authenticity or weakness, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)
A man is reckoned to be lying when he gives voice to all that he hears.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 884
It is enough for a man to prove himself a liar when he goes on narrating whatever he hears.
Riyad as-Salihin 1547
If the authors and writers of the present era were to adhere to this hadith, many of them would not be able to roam freely in much of their writing, because the bulk of their writings consists of weak hadiths with no chains of narration, no strength, and no control. And there is another hadith in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) says
Whoever narrates a hadith about me while he thinks it is false, he is one of the liars.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 18:308
The first hadith
Whoever lies about me deliberately and intentionally...
People might say, “We do not intentionally lie about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in this last hadith, namely his saying
Whoever narrates a hadith about me while he thinks it is false, he is one of the liars.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 18:308
This last hadith warns the Muslim not to narrate a hadith whose authenticity he does not know, thinking it might be false. If he narrates it and it is indeed false, and he did not verify it before narrating it, then he is one of the liars. The first liar is the one who fabricated it, and the other liar is the one who promoted it and spread it among people. If there were no other hadith in this matter, the awareness of Muslims today would be like the awareness of the scholars: they would not narrate a hadith unless they had verified its authenticity. So, if the cure for the condition of Muslims today is to return to the religion, and this religion is the one revealed to the heart of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) before what entered into it, especially these weak and fabricated hadiths, then it was necessary, indeed a fundamental requirement, to... [text cuts off] the issues of today for the renewal of Islamic life except by following this path that leads Muslims to know the religion as it was in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is one thing.
