The Shaykh’s reminder that marriage is an act of worship, citing some hadiths indicating this.

The Shaykh : It appears to me, and Allah knows best, that this group was newly converted to Islam and had not yet gained a deep understanding of the laws and rulings of Islam. For example, they did not know that marriage is an act of worship, as reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in more than one hadith. For instance, in the well-known hadith, when the poor came to him and said, “O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have taken away the wealth and the rewards. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, they perform Hajj as we perform Hajj, and they give charity while we do not,” he (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) consoled them by saying:
Shall I not direct you to something that, if you do it, you will surpass those before you, and no one after you will catch up to you except one who does the same?
The messenger of the poor returned to his poor companions and brought them this good news from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they rejoiced greatly. However, it was not long before their messenger returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to say to him, “O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have heard what you told us, and they have done the same as we did.” He (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) then said:
That is the Grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He pleases.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1973Sahih (Darussalam)
This is the narration of Imam Muslim in his Sahih. In another narration in a different hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them:
For every tasbih (glorification) you have a charity, for every tahmid (praise) you have a charity, for every takbir (exaltation) you have a charity, for every tahlil (declaration of oneness) you have a charity, enjoining good is a charity, forbidding evil is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity...
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to enumerate many noble moral traits, and then concluded the hadith by saying:
and in man's sexual Intercourse (with his wife, ) there is a Sadaqa
Sahih Muslim 1006
They asked in surprise, “O Messenger of Allah, does one of us have a reward for fulfilling his desire?” He said:
What do you think if he places it in what is forbidden, does he not bear a sin?
They said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said:
Similarly, if he were to devote it to something lawful, he should have a reward.
Sahih Muslim 1006
Hadiths like this, and others in the chapter encouraging marriage, especially regarding patience with children and offspring, were hidden from them.
