What is the ruling on wearing clothes that contain images or foreign words?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: In clothes for promotion, they embroider on them—for example—cartoon drawings or foreign words or designs; is this something permissible?

The Shaykh: Of course, the drawings are not permissible, because you know
He who painted pictures in the world would be compelled to breathe soul in them on the Day of Resurrection, but he would not be able to breathe soul (in them).
Sahih Muslim 2110b
,
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
, yes, and then his saying (peace be upon him):
Angels do not enter a house in which there is a picture
Sahih Muslim 2106e
. As for if the writing is in European letters, then here there must be a distinction; if these letters contain a meaning, and this meaning is ugly in the Shari'ah; then it is clear that it is not permissible.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: We hear that in Europe, their licentiousness and ugliness have reached the point that a girl wears a shirt written on it in European letters, of course, this word means—for example—I no longer remember, but the meaning is intended that I am ready, I am present, is the meaning of the speech understood?

The questioner: Yes, of course, the speech means, but there are phrases written on them—for example.

The Shaykh: But I have not finished my speech, I am saying: if these letters are written with a meaning that is not permissible in the Shari'ah; then there is no doubt that it is forbidden, but if these letters are an advertisement for a foreign company, for example, to promote this merchandise, or something similar to this meaning; such that the meaning itself does not contradict the Shari'ah; then we say: it is not forbidden, but we dislike this merchandise; because it contains European letters; because it represents European taste, and the Muslim should be far from this.
And you know today the calamity in these foreign clothes does not stop at this theoretical image we are talking about, shirts come to us printed with crosses, and many people do not notice them; because they make them in a way that deceives many people, especially the naive people; and therefore, from the perspective of blocking the means to harm, a person should not buy anything but plain shirts; because they are mixing poison with fat, now you see the carpets in the mosques, it is very rare that they do not have crosses, but they made them in a way that is not clear; because if it were clear, people would no longer buy them; and therefore they put them in the sides in corners to be hidden, many Muslims have been negligent, and for a reason he (peace be upon him) said:
The best of your clothes are white.
.

Another questioner : ... .

The Shaykh :
The best of your clothes are white; so dress your living in them and shroud your dead in them.
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 14:56
.
The questioner : Yes, I do.
