Some scholars said: He joins them with the intention of a voluntary prayer, then he prays the obligatory prayer; what is your opinion? And what is the validity of this statement?

The questioner : Some scholars said: He joins them with the intention of a voluntary prayer; he prays 'Isha' with them as a voluntary prayer for him, then he prays Maghrib, then 'Isha'?

The Shaykh : Why?

The questioner : I do not know, so what is the validity of this statement, or?

The Shaykh : What I presented to you, the evidence I presented, is to clarify that the difference between the intention of the follower and the intention of the imam does not harm the validity of the prayer. If he is praying Maghrib and the imam is praying 'Isha', it is even more likely that this prayer is valid than the prayer of those who are praying the obligatory prayer behind one who is praying a voluntary prayer. All that is in the matter is that he needs a medium in the issue; and that is that the one who is praying the obligatory prayer intends to separate.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.
