(Whoever does not preserve the prayer... and Allah will gather him with Qarun and Haman).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Al-Halabi :
Five prayers, whoever preserves them, they will be for him a light, a proof, and a salvation on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever does not preserve them, he will not have a light on the Day of Resurrection, nor a proof, nor a salvation, and he will be on the Day of Resurrection with Pharaoh, Qarun, Haman, and Abu Jahl.
This hadith, my teacher, you had graded it as weak, and I think its defect was in Isa ibn Hilal al-Sadafi.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
Al-Halabi : But it seems, my teacher, that... Ya'qub ibn Sufyan authenticated him, so how do we deal with this hadith? Do we grade it as good, or what?

The Shaykh : Of course, we researched it, and we found no authentication other than this one. But I observe that in the path of attributing it to Ibn Hibban and Ibn Khuzaymah, it is added to the fact that al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi describes him as having narrations that are anomalous. This negates the general authentication of him. From this and that, it is concluded that his authentication by al-Fasawi should not be taken in a general sense. Yes, that is correct.
Al-Halabi : One of the wonders is that al-Fasawi authenticates and corrects the hadith:
Every important matter كل أمر ذي بال
Sunan Ibn Majah 1894Da'if (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : Yes, Abd al-Rahman ibn Qura.
Al-Halabi : Qura ibn Abd al-Rahman.

The Shaykh : Yes, Qura ibn Abd al-Rahman.
Al-Halabi : He authenticated him as well.

The Shaykh : Let me tell you, some of the biographers passed by me, and I find al-Fasawi authenticating him while the others do not. So, he is on the path of being recommended to be grouped with the lenient ones.
Al-Halabi : In a hadith about the 'Id sacrifice, Isa was also in it, so you had graded it as weak. Then you corrected the hadith and graded it as good due to the authentication by Ya'qub ibn Sufyan. It seems that it is in the category of... what corroborates it, or generally, or...

The Shaykh : That is why I said at the end of the previous discussion...
Al-Halabi : The issue of generality, and that it should not be looked at in a general sense.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct. Then, this is a hadith of Isa, and it seems to have an anomaly in meaning. This is among the reasons that make us not take his authentication in a general sense. Because you know that a trustworthy man, known for his trustworthiness, and whom a researcher does not hesitate to authenticate, we find the scholars sometimes grade his hadith as weak when they see an anomaly in the meaning, contradicting a rule...
Al-Halabi : Even sometimes due to strangeness.

The Shaykh : The truth is, the science of hadith is a very precise science. It is not as many of the young people today think, that it is like arithmetic operations. It is absolutely not so. For some reason, I imagine that the more one lives in this science, the more one imagines the reason for scholars turning away from this science over other Islamic sciences, over other sciences, and that is because it is difficult and rugged. I mean, as you see, I have lived half a century in this science, and every few days I retract from something, every few days I retract from something. It is a very difficult thing.

The questioner : Is it possible for a person to be a jurist for many years, but this, Glory be to Allah!
Al-Halabi : In more than one session of our teacher in Riyadh recently, there was raising of some points of hadith, meaning in hadith researches and such. I used to say to many of the brothers that the science of hadith and the rules of terminology are not rigid rules. By Allah, one plus one equals two. The hadith scholar must have a view in these matters.

The Shaykh : There is no doubt, and a person finds strong indications from the masters of this discipline for this unrecorded meaning, meaning this unregistered meaning. The meaning we are talking about, you do not find it in the terminology, but you find words that are understood by the one who lived this discipline.
Al-Halabi : If you ask him about the defect of a hadith, he does not know how to answer you, like the goldsmith in language.

The Shaykh : And this is what I intended. Ibn al-Madini was asked how he knows the authentic hadith from the fabricated one. He said: Like the goldsmith, how he knows the counterfeit dinar from the good one. This is a craft, a science arising from its practice over time, not just rules.

The questioner : And it requires patience and perseverance.

The Shaykh : That is it.
The student : My Shaykh, the sheep herders, my Shaykh, they do this, they pull their sheep to milk them. The sheep, he sees it from its face and milks it.

The Shaykh : Correct, everything is by practice.
