The questioner : This is a questioner for the program, Abdul Aziz Abdullah. He says: O honorable Shaykh, I have heard from some beneficial tapes about the hypocrites that they are four, namely Pharaoh, Qarun, Haman, and Abu ibn Khalf. I listened to an explanation of Pharaoh and Qarun that was sufficient. It said that whoever is arrogant will be gathered with Pharaoh, and whoever...
The Shaykh : Who?
The questioner : Whoever is arrogant will be gathered with Pharaoh, and whoever is deceived by his worldly life through wealth will be gathered with Qarun. When he began to mention Haman, the tape or the narration ended. What are the blameworthy characteristics that each of Haman and Abu ibn Khalf possessed?
The Shaykh : Yes. First, the questioner’s statement that they are among the hypocrites or the heads of the hypocrites is a mistake. Rather, they are among the stubborn ones who openly declare their disbelief.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : The hypocrite does not stubbornly oppose outwardly, nor does he openly declare his disbelief. They are the leaders of disbelief, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Qasas 28:41] meaning thereby the leaders of the disbelievers [Al-Qasas 28:41]. Each of these has a distinguishing feature over the others. Pharaoh was deceived by kingship and authority, so he and his soldiers became arrogant on earth without right. Haman was deceived by his ministerial position, for he was Pharaoh’s minister. So, due to his closeness to this unjust king, he was deceived by himself, became stubborn, and disbelieved. Qarun became arrogant with his wealth; his abundance of wealth deceived him, so he became arrogant and refused to follow Moses (peace be upon him). Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Qasas 28:76]. And Abu ibn Khalf was deceived by his leadership among his people and his status among them, so he became arrogant regarding the truth. There is no doubt that people will be gathered with one another if they are similar in their disbelief. Allah Blessed and Exalted is He said: [As-Saffat 37:22] meaning gather them and their categories, for every disbeliever is with the category that shared with him the description of disbelief. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
