Explaining the importance of greeting with peace upon entering and leaving. And the hadith of whoever introduces in Islam...

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
When one of you enters the gathering, let him greet, and when he leaves, let him greet, for the first is not more deserving than the second. When one of you enters the gathering, let him greet, and when he leaves, let him greet, for the first is not more deserving than the second.
. So you have now entered the gathering, and this is among the meanings of his saying (peace be upon him) in the well-known authentic hadith
By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you of something that will help you to achieve that? Spread (the greeting of) salaam amongst yourselves.
Musnad Ahmad 1430, 1431, 1432Da'if (Darussalam)
. Upon the one coming up and the one coming down, like a saw, upon the one coming up and the one coming down; "Peace be upon you" is ten, "and Allah's mercy" is twenty, "and His blessings" is thirty; a great favor from Allah; a man entered the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) gathering and greeted saying: "Peace be upon you," so he said:
Ten عشر
, a second man came and said: "Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy," he said:
Twenty
, a third came and said: "Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and His blessings," he said:
Thirty
; they said: "O Messenger of Allah, the first man entered and you said ten, the second twenty, the third thirty," he said:
The first one said, “Peace be upon you,” and he was recorded as having ten [rewards]. The second one added to it, so Allah increased for him, and he was recorded as having twenty. The third one completed it, saying, “Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings,” and he was recorded as having thirty.
this.
The student: And upon you peace...

The Shaykh: Yes, here comes the well-known verse
when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it
[An-Nisa 4:86]
. If a Muslim says "Peace be upon you" and you reply "And upon you peace," he has ten; if he says "Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy" he has twenty; but the point is, if a Muslim says a phrase that earns him thirty, what is the reply?

The questioner: and His forgiveness

The Shaykh: This is a matter in which there is disagreement among scholars, some of whom say, what is the difference between this and that?
The student: This is soft and that is rough.

The Shaykh: Yes, this is soft, and by Allah we love the soft ones.
The students and the Shaykh are laughing; it appears that Kanana’s sweets were served to the Shaykh and the students.
.
The student: Our Shaykh, we touched upon this hadith in a small question
If anyone establishes a good sunna in Islam he will have a reward for it and the equivalent of the rewards of those who act upon it
Mishkat al-Masabih 210
. And the second hadith...

The Shaykh :
Mundhir b. Jarir reported on the authority of his father: While we were in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the early hours of the morning, some people came there (who) were barefooted, naked, wearing striped woollen clothes, or cloaks, with their swords hung (around their necks). Most of them, nay, all of them, belonged to the tribe of Mudar. The colour of the face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) underwent a change when he saw them in poverty. He then entered (his house) and came out and commanded Bilal (to pronounce Adhan). He pronounced Adhan and Iqima, and he (the Holy Prophet) observed prayer (along with his Companion) and then addressed (them reciting verses of the Holy Qur'an): '" 0 people, fear your Lord, Who created you from a single being" to the end of the verse," Allah is ever a Watcher over you" (iv. 1). (He then recited) a verse of Sura Hashr:" Fear Allah. and let every soul consider that which it sends forth for the morrow and fear Allah" (lix. 18). (Then the audience began to vie with one another in giving charity.) Some donated a dinar, others a dirham, still others clothes, some donated a sa' of wheat, some a sa' of dates; till he (the Holy Prophet) said: (Bring) even if it is half a date. Then a person from among the Ansar came there with a money bag which his hands could scarcely lift; in fact, they could not (lift). Then the people followed continuously, till I saw two heaps of eatables and clothes, and I saw the face of the Messenger (ﷺ) glistening, like gold (on account of joy). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He who sets a good precedent in Islam, there is a reward for him for this (act of goodness) and reward of that also who acted according to it subsequently, without any deduction from their rewards; and he who sets in Islam an evil precedent, there is upon him the burden of that, and the burden of him also who acted upon it subsequently, without any deduction from their burden.
Sahih Muslim 1017a
.
The student: Do we consider these two hadiths contradictory or what?

The Shaykh : Far be it.
The student: And they both touch upon this... here in the greeting there is more than this.

The Shaykh: In any case, you are making it clear to us that you intend it.
The student: We hope... what is bid'ah (religious innovation) in its origin? This is the important point. Is bid'ah not something in worship...

The Shaykh: Your friend is exhausting himself a lot.
The student: By Allah, I just want to understand.

The Shaykh: I did not deny that he needs to understand; I am confirming that he needs to understand; but there is understanding without effort, and there is understanding with effort.
The student: With his hand that bid'ah is like something good.

The Shaykh: You, Abu Mustafa, were not with me when I was asking him a question and he was not answering me; he is exhausting himself; I am asking you, what does "whoever introduces" mean, "whoever innovated"? Say yes, say no, say whatever you understand, what is the meaning from the hadith?
The student: The same meaning.

The Shaykh: I am not saying the same meaning, my brother, I am asking you what is the meaning?
The student: You are asking me if it is the same bid'ah or not, I say yes, the same meaning, whoever introduces a good sunnah (recommended practice) is like whoever innovated, meaning the same meaning.

The Shaykh: Subhan Allah! You are right that he is exhausting himself, look how much he has spoken, I am telling him, I am asking you what do you understand from the hadith, "whoever introduces" meaning "whoever innovated"? And I tell you say yes or say no.
The student: Ah, I understand, ah.

The Shaykh: Did you see how long it took to give an answer? We need to pull the answer out, let your friend go when I ask you, and this is a method in research so that you save your time and the time of others; "whoever introduces" you understand it to mean "whoever innovated";

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: Fine, your previous question came from here, but I did not like to build an answer until I was sure of the correctness of my understanding of you; so if you understand "whoever introduces" to mean "whoever innovated," we will tell you, you are not the first to be deceived by the moon, you are not the first one to interpret this Prophetic hadith with this wrong interpretation, why? I am now mentioning to you the occasion on which the hadith was said, of course the speaker is the Messenger (peace be upon him); because the research is in the hadith; and prepare yourself from this moment so that you are not surprised; because I want you to understand well, prepare yourself to answer a simple question but not in the previous way, yes, directly the answer is like this; what is the question? The story I am going to tell you is not from me, it is from Sahih Muslim; I am asking you a question, tell me, where is the bid'ah in this story, you will tell me here or you will tell me I did not see bid'ah; is this thing understood?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: Fine, Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Bedouins came to him, wearing cloaks of camel hair, wearing swords, most of them from Mudar, or all of them from Mudar; when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, his face changed, then he gave a sermon, - his face changing means his features changed out of grief and sadness, they were poor - then he said (peace be upon him)
(9) O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that - then those are the losers. (10) And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:9-10]
. This is a well-known verse; then he said (peace be upon him):
A man gave charity with his dirham, his dinar, his sa’ of barley, or his sa’ of wheat.
. So a man from those present stood up and went to his house to bring what he could of charity and placed it in front of the Messenger (peace be upon him); when the other Companions saw what their brother did, each of them stood up and went to his house to bring what he could of charity as well; so gathered in front of the Messenger (peace be upon him) were things like small mountains, meaning of charity; when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that, his face brightened as if it were polished, and he said:
Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam will have the reward of it and the reward of everyone who works by it until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being deducted from their rewards. And whoever introduces a bad practice in Islam will have the burden of its sin and the burden of everyone who works by it until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being deducted from their burdens.
. The question is, show me the bid'ah?
The student: What bid'ah?

The Shaykh: If your understanding is wrong, your understanding of "whoever introduces" meaning "whoever innovated" is wrong; because it is impossible, and of course it is not permissible for a person to deny his origin, I am Al-Albani, it is true I speak the Arabic language and this is a favor from Allah upon me; but I am Al-Albani, so this Al-Albani is shy to say, on an occasion like this, you and everyone who hears the hadith testify that there is no bid'ah, to say "whoever innovated in Islam a good bid'ah," how is this and there was no bid'ah, if you interpret the hadith
every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam)
. Because there is no contradiction; it has become clear to you. And I will add more clarification.
The student: Clarify the answer completely for me.

The Shaykh: Do not advise, I am careful, I told you I am going to clarify for you, but is the speech I spoke clear to you?The student: Yes.

The Shaykh: And I will add more clarification, I say the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said this hadith on the occasion of charity, and charity is not bid'ah, but in that occasion the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the verse
O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you
[Al-Baqarah 2:254]
. Then he confirmed the meaning of the verse with his command
A man gave charity with his dirham, his dinar.
. To the end of the hadith; so no bid'ah occurred in that occasion at all, but there was charity, and charity includes what is obligatory and what is recommended; so what is the meaning of "whoever introduces"? The meaning of "whoever introduces" linguistically and by the implication of the hadith and the occasion: whoever opened a path, whoever opened a path to a good sunnah (recommended practice); and this is what happened, the first man was the first to go to the house to bring the charity, and the others followed him, so he was written the reward of his charity and the charity of the others because he was the one who moved the good, he was the one who opened the door; so he said (peace be upon him)
He who sets a good precedent in Islam
Sahih Muslim 1017a
. Meaning this first man has his reward and your reward, all of you; but your reward is preserved and nothing is deducted from it; so the meaning of the hadith is very clear, whoever introduces in Islam means whoever opened a path in Islam, a good path known by the Shari'ah, not I say this is good and you say it is bad or vice versa; in that case the hadith is in one place and every bid'ah is misguidance is in another place; so the hadith remains in its generality and comprehensiveness and there is no specification as the two who imagine suppose, mistakenly, that this hadith "whoever introduces" means "whoever innovated," while this is a very serious error, a very serious error to attribute to the Messenger (peace be upon him) that he said on the occasion of opening the door of lawful charity, by the text of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, "whoever innovated in Islam," far be it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); I am shy to say this, I am Al-Albani, Abu Mustafa, I am shy of this, what about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)... the one who spoke with the Dhad, Subhan Allah!
The student: The Companion...

The Shaykh : No.
The student: The bad sunnah (recommended practice) he did not mean by it bid'ah...

The Shaykh: Yes, fine, do you have anything else or are you satisfied, it appears?
