The questioner : I work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and live with some of my Egyptian brothers, and all of us, praise be to Allah, are of good character and we maintain all types of worship, but O honorable Shaykh, there is among us a man who does not pray the obligatory prayer except alone, individually, and he does not pray with the congregation except on Friday. We have advised him many times to pray with us in the congregation, but he has not heeded any advice or guidance from his brothers. Also, when he enters our home, he does not say: "Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy," or "Peace be upon you." We have also advised him many times to at least greet his brothers, but he responds by saying: "I will not say to anyone: 'Peace be upon you.' I am free; I say what I wish according to my mood." So please guide us in light of this, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : We direct the brother about whom you are asking to repent to Allah the Mighty and Majestic and to perform what Allah has made obligatory upon him, namely the congregational prayer. We also advise him to greet his brothers when he enters their presence, for this is a right they have over him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Six are the rights of a Muslim over another Muslim حق المسلم على المسلم ست
Sahih Muslim 2162b
and among them is mentioned
When you meet him, offer him greetings ... إذا لقيته فسلم عليه
Sahih Muslim 2162b
As for these people, it is incumbent upon them to advise this brother who neglects the congregation and does not pray except on Friday, and who also does not greet them. They should direct advice to him and warn him that if he does not reform, they will expel him from their company. There is no blame on them for expelling him from their company if he persists in what he is doing, which is a wrong. Unless they fear that if he leaves them, he will commit a greater sin than the sin he is committing among them. In that case, it is appropriate to say: he remains with them and they advise him, perhaps Allah will guide him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
