The Collective Prayer upon the Prophet
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 17371 )
Q1: The Muslims gathering after every prayer to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where one of them says: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, and peace,” and the others say: “(peace and blessings be upon him),” then that Shaykh again says: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad,” and the others return to saying: “May the blessings of Allah be upon His Messenger,” then they all speak together saying: “O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our master, our Prophet, and our lord Muhammad, and upon the family of Muhammad, and peace, praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds,” then that Shaykh makes supplications for the congregation with whatever supplications he wishes. When I tell them that it is an innovation, they claim
that you do not love the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they pray with us in our mosques. We ask you to clarify the ruling on its prohibition or permissibility.
A1: Sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is prescribed and encouraged; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:56] , and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 408 . As for the collective sending of blessings, the Salaf of this Ummah did not do it, which indicates that it is among the newly invented matters. It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A1: Sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is prescribed and encouraged; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًاHe who blesses me once, Allah would bless him ten times.
من صلى علي واحدة صلى الله عليه بها عشرًا'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
