What is the ruling on jihad in Afghanistan and the permission of the parents in that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is jihad in Afghanistan an individual obligation such that it entitles them to go out without the permission of their parents?

The Shaykh : By Allah, this is one of the thorny issues, in which it is difficult to speak with certainty, because the fact that jihad in Afghanistan is an individual obligation, there is no doubt or ambiguity in that, and an individual obligation is not a matter in which a father or mother is consulted. But on the other hand, this individual obligation is not an individual duty, but rather the duty of the Ummah. And the Ummah today, as we see, unfortunately, is divided, some against others; you would think them a united body, but their hearts are divided. So if you look at the issue from the first aspect, that it is obligatory, then one does not seek permission. And if you look at the fact that this obligation must be under a legitimate banner and an imam who leads the Muslims to jihad in the path of Allah, and this does not exist, then at that time this obligation is not possible to establish. And so, in reality, I do not tell anyone to consult or not to consult, and I say that whoever wishes to fight in jihad, the way is open... I do not prevent that, but I do not say it is obligatory unless the conditions are met, and we have referred to some of them earlier.
