The Details of the Ruling on the Obligation of Jihad in Afghanistan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Second, it is obligatory for anyone who wants to go to Afghanistan to fight in the path of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, not to forget his individual obligations. For example, if he is the head of a family, and there is someone there to take care of the family’s affairs—his wife, his mother, his father, and his children—then he should go and die in the path of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, if he is able.

The questioner : There is a wife.

The Shaykh : I say, and I said earlier, if you are one who acknowledges the obligations of these people, you are now, in your capacity as a husband, obligated toward your wife and your children, are you not?
This is from one perspective. From another perspective, as the son of your father and your mother, who are still alive, it is true that you are a blessing and you have many brothers and sisters. But I am speaking in general terms now, for perhaps a father has only one son, may Allah keep him well.
This does not apply to you, as the blessing is in your many other children. But you are married, you have a wife and children. If you leave them and travel to fight in the path of Allah, is there anyone to take care of the wife and the children? The answer is: if there is, then rely on Allah. This speech is not directed at a specific person; I am speaking about general rules. If there is no one, then you are in jihad, as came in the authentic hadith:
A man passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while some of his Companions were around him, and they mentioned his toughness and energy. They said, "If this man were in the path of Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he went out seeking to provide for two old, elderly parents, he is in the path of Allah. And if he went out seeking to provide for his young children, he is in the path of Allah."
. Also, if there is no one to take on this duty as a substitute responsible for the wife and the child, it is not permissible for him to leave an obligation to fulfill another obligation. However, if there is someone to support this family, whether a brother, a relative, or a father, the examples multiply and repeat. In that case, if he leaves them enough maintenance to suffice them for as long as Allah wills, a year, two years, or more, and goes out to jihad, then in this situation he is combining the fulfillment of two obligations. Is that clear? That is it.
