The Shaykh : One of us enters the mosque, goes to the ablution area, and finds his companion performing wudu'. What does he say to him? "Zamzam is good." Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The right of a Muslim over another Muslim is that if you meet him, you greet him with the salam." The salam has gone, and an innovation has taken its place. He greets his companion after the prayer by saying, "May Allah accept it." My brother, tell him, "Peace be upon you." Except for what you have innovated, you have not killed a Sunnah. This is what has befallen these people who celebrate this innovated Mawlid. I say that we have two celebrations of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): one is a Sunnah and the other is an innovation. People have held on to the innovation and neglected the Sunnah. What is the celebration of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and what is the evidence for it? It is reported in Sahih Muslim that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Sunan Ibn Majah 3235Da’if (Darussalam), on Monday. You know that it is the day of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 9:552. He answered in the style of the wise, including in the answer the recommendation and the addition, where his answer (peace be upon him) was . And what is the meaning of this answer? How do you ask, "What is the ruling on fasting on Monday?" You should fast on Monday, because this is the day I was born, because that is the day I was born and Allah revealed the revelation to me in it. So you must thank Allah for this great blessing, which our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, has bestowed upon you, by creating me on this day and giving me life through the revelation on this day. We know that many Muslims today fast on Monday, but if you ask the majority of them why they fast on Monday, they do not say what they say when they ask why we celebrate. They tell you, "It is a celebration of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." They should have said, "We fast on Monday as a celebration and remembrance of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on this day." This has become forgotten, not only among the common people, but even among the specialists. And in my opinion, with the existence of this hadith in Sahih Muslim, perhaps you have heard it once or twice, directing the hadith and linking it to the prescribed celebration, and striking the non-prescribed celebration with this prescribed celebration. I think you rarely hear such a direction for this hadith, even though it is a hadith in the second book, which follows Sahih al-Bukhari in authenticity. Fasting on Monday, as you know, is once every week, and they celebrate once every year. If this celebration were prescribed, then measure the difference between fasting once every week and celebrating once every year. So the celebration they do today for the Mawlid of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), first, it is not from the practice of the Salaf, so it is an innovation. And he (peace be upon him) said, Sunan an-Nasa'i 1578Sahih (Darussalam). Second, these people who claim that they celebrate every year, once a year, to honor the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and to remind people of the Messenger, they should know that they must teach people to fast every Monday, as a celebration of the birth of the Messenger of Allah. Because in doing so, first, they draw people's attention to a worship that is agreed upon as being prescribed, which is fasting on Monday. And second, they teach people the wisdom behind the prescription of fasting on Monday, which is the celebration of the birth of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on this day. This is the answer to your question, and perhaps it will be convincing to whoever wants the truth and has not become biased against the truth.
The questioner: May Allah reward you.
It was narrated that Khuzaimah bin Jaz’ said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have come to ask you about the vermin of the earth. What do you say about foxes?’ He said: ‘Who eats foxes?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about wolves?’ He said: ‘Does anyone in whom there is anything good eat wolves?’”
يا رسول الله ما تقول في صوم يوم الإثنينWhat do you say about fasting on Monday?
