Commentary on the Book of the Lawful Bequest in Light of the Book and the Sunnah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We ask His EminenceThe Shaykh : to review for us the lawful bequest that we wrote in light of the Book and the Sunnah, and we ask him to correct any errors in it. After a short time, our Shaykh, with the help of Allah the Exalted, was able to... and this bequest was prepared, I mean, by the Association of the People of the Sunnah and the Community in Australia?

The Shaykh : What is this?

Another questioner : A collection of your tapes.

The Shaykh : Yes, I have heard of it, but I have not seen it.

Another questioner : For whom, O Shaykh? I am without a name; I want to record it.

The Shaykh : By Allah, I do not know. I was told that some of the brothers here collected it from them, so I do not know. And there are many like these in the Islamic world, but this is a problem.

The questioner : There may be, for example, previous fatwas that he has since revised?

The Shaykh : That is the case. For instance, in the fatwas of Ibn Taymiyyah, you will find a fatwa in which he permits seeking nearness to Allah through a means (tawassul). Have you seen it? In the Collection of Fatwas, which is thirty-five volumes, there is a fatwa in which he permits tawassul. And he has a treatise on Tawassul and the Means (al-Wasilah) in which he invalidates tawassul through created things, and that is the correct position. The reason is that a person is in a state of development. Therefore, publishing such fatwas and answers to questions contains many errors, and very many indeed.
