The detailed ruling on writing a will

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it obligatory for a person to write his will during his lifetime, even if he does not have much? How is this will written? And what does it consist of?

Answer:
It is only written if he has something in which to make a bequest. As for if he has nothing in which to make a bequest, then it is not prescribed for him; based on the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
It is the duty of a Muslim who has something which is to be given as a bequest not to have it for two nights without having his will written down regarding it.ما حق امرئ مسلم له شيء يريد أن يوصي فيه يبيت ليلتين إلا ووصيته مكتوبة عنده
Sahih Muslim 1627a
He said:
It is the duty of a Muslim who has something which is to be given as a bequestما حق مسلم له شيء يريد أن يوصي فيه

.
As for if he has nothing, and is poor; he has nothing, but if he has wealth and wants to bequeath a third, or a quarter, or a fifth; he should hasten, and write the will so that death does not overtake him before he has made a bequest. Yes.
