How do we reconcile the hadith ( "The meat of cows is a disease...") with his (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificing cows on behalf of his wives?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner:
The milk of cows is a medicine, and their meat is a disease ألبان البقر دواء، ولحومها داء
, so how do we reconcile this with the fact that cows are permissible to be used as sacrificial animals, since the Shari'ah cannot possibly prescribe offering something harmful as a sacrifice.

The Shaykh: Yes; it is authentic that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed cows on behalf of his wives during the Farewell Pilgrimage. It is also authentic that he (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the consumption of cow fat and prohibited the consumption of their meat, for their fat is a medicine and their meat is a disease. The scholars have reconciled this hadith with the hadith of his (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificing cows on behalf of his wives by stating that the intent behind the prohibition of cow meat is the excessive consumption of it. However, if one eats it occasionally, there is no harm or detriment in that, and it is undoubtedly permissible, because the intent of the prohibition of cow meat is the excessive consumption of it and substituting it for the meat of sheep, goats, and camels. This is the answer of the scholars.
