Statement of the Principle: "The statement regarding the attributes is like the statement regarding the Essence, in both affirmation and negation."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And for this reason, the scholars of the Salaf say: "What is said regarding the attributes is what is said regarding the Essence, in affirmation and negation." Do we deny the Divine Essence? If we did, we would be disbelievers. So we say: Allah exists. He is considered to exist. Good. Do we know the modality of the Essence? Never. Good. Does Allah have attributes of perfection? The answer is: Yes. Good. What is their modality? There is no modality. What is said regarding the attributes is what is said regarding the Essence. Just as we affirm the Essence, we affirm the attributes. Just as we purify the Essence from resembling the created things, so we purify the attributes from resembling the created things. This is faith, and this is knowledge, unlike what the scholars of Kalam say—Allah—, and this is, in reality, a deviation from the Shari'ah of Islam when they say of the Khalaf: "The knowledge of the Salaf is safer, and the knowledge of the Khalaf is more knowledgeable and more wise."
