Discussion of Yusuf al-Qaradawi and his agreement with Muhammad al-Ghazali on many matters, including the rejection of authentic hadiths

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I would like to add to the words ofThe Shaykh : Muhammad Shuqra

The questioner : Please go ahead.

The questioner : Now, there is Yusuf al-Qaradawi, may Allah correct us all

The questioner : Amen.

The questioner : He wrote a book supporting al-Ghazali's book, "The Prophetic Sunnah and How We Deal with It"

The Shaykh : Ah.

The questioner : Yes.

The questioner : He supports the lengthening of the khutbah in his manner. Then, they addressed some rulings, and among those rulings is shaking hands with a non-mahram woman. He leaves aside the authentic hadith
But I do not shake hands with women. إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
and argues with the hadith of the girl at whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped, interpreting it to mean that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shaking her hand. Then, in his book "Faith and Life," he comes to one of the fabricated hadiths, a hadith of Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), which is found in al-Tabarani's al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and he writes six or seven pages to derive inferences from this hadith.

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar. There are many things of this type.
Abu Malik: I say, our Shaykh, may Allah bless you,

The Shaykh : Yes.
Abu Malik: I mean, so that students of knowledge can rest. And I always say to our brothers, the students of knowledge: leave these modern writings alone, leave them, and hold fast to what is old from the past era and what resembles it in this time, because these modern, contemporary writings have actually destroyed correct Islamic culture.

The Shaykh : Yes.
Abu Malik: And it has also led to a frenzy among the youth without awareness or correct understanding of the principles, rules, and foundations of knowledge.

The Shaykh : Yes.

Another questioner : In a word to our Shaykh before we speak on the topic, please, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : I wanted to say, on the occasion of the word ofThe Shaykh : Hamdi, may Allah reward him with good, about some of the writings ofThe Shaykh : al-Qaradawi, and that he follows the path of al-Ghazali. Apparently, they were contemporaries in study and in thought as well.
Abu Malik: HeThe Shaykh : al-Ghazali considers al-Qaradawi his teacher.

The Shaykh : Like this.
Abu Malik: And he is younger than him.

The Shaykh : But there is not this big difference.
Abu Malik: It is big, our Shaykh, not less than ten years difference.

The Shaykh : By Allah, I do not know.
Abu Malik:The Shaykh : al-Ghazali reached seventy-eight years old.

The Shaykh : Okay, and how old is al-Qaradawi?
Abu Malik: And al-Qaradawi, no, over sixty, right...

The Shaykh : Because it was decreed for me to live in Qatar for a few days, do you know, in the previous time?
Abu Malik: Yes, exactly.

The Shaykh : And I used to meet with al-Qaradawi and al-Ghazali, so I did not feel this difference in age, but I feel that they were contemporaries in study. The point is, then they agreed on the deviant methodology from the Sunnah. You find that when al-Ghazali weakens a hadith, al-Qaradawi follows him, and it may be the exact opposite. They met on many authentic hadiths in weakening them. The most famous of them is the hadith of al-Bukhari, which has become in this time a means to know those who deviate from the Sunnah, because this hadith addresses a prevalent affliction in this present age, and people are swept away by their desires behind it. Whoever among them knows that the Shari'ah contradicts it says, "La hawla wa la quwwata illa bi-Allah..." and whoever is deviant from the Sunnah tries to pass off this affliction under the name that there is no harm in it. I mean by that hadith, the hadith of al-Bukhari
There will be among my Ummah (the Muslim community) some people who make lawful the har, silk, khamr (intoxicants), and musical instruments. They will spend the night in amusement and play, and they will rise in the morning having been transformed into apes and pigs. ليكونن في أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف يمسون في لهو ولعب ويصبحون وقد مسخوا قردة وخنازير
. al-Ghazali dismissed it completely, and al-Qaradawi did his thing, but with the Syrian expression "qabasha 'alayhi," meaning he added to it. He quoted the words of Ibn Hazm al-Zahiri regarding the hadith of al-Bukhari that it is fabricated. And no one who knows what comes out of his mouth from his mind would say that, because a fabricated hadith, as is not hidden from all our brothers, is what is narrated by a liar and a fabricator. And is there a liar and a fabricator in Sahih al-Bukhari? Far from it. Moreover, this hadith came through routes other than the route of al-Bukhari, which he clings to in criticizing the soundness of the chain in al-Bukhari's route.
Abu Malik: He says that it is from the mursal hadiths.

The Shaykh : Does al-Qaradawi come, knowing al-Bukhari's narration of this hadith and knowing the continuous response of hadith scholars to Ibn Hazm, and dismiss all these scholarly efforts completely, and say, "Ibn Hazm said that this hadith is fabricated"? This indicates that he wants to keep up with the times, meaning to adapt Islam according to the desires of the contemporaries in this time. There is a lot of this from him, but it seems that there is something behind the veil. And Allah is the Helper. We ask Allah to revive the Sunnah and inspire the Ummah to act upon it.

The questioner : Amen.

The Shaykh: And peace be upon you

The questioner : Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika, ashhadu an la ilaha illa Anta.
