What is your opinion regarding Dr. al-Qaradawi’s statement that the last words of the hadith of the schism are fabricated, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him), “They are all in the Fire except one…”?

The questioner: Your Eminence, I have a question. There is a fatwa by Dr. al-Qaradawi in which he says, regarding the hadith of the division of the Ummah, that the last part of the hadith, which is that they Sunan Ibn Majah 3993Sahih (Darussalam), is not part of the original hadith?
The Shaykh : First of all, O daughter of the faithful, O Umm 'Amr.
The questioner: Yes.
The Shaykh : Not everyone who speaks about a certain field of knowledge should be listened to. Have you ever known Shaykh al-Qaradawi to have authored a treatise on the science of hadith, let alone a book, let alone books, let alone volumes? This is the calamity of the age in this time. People like al-Qaradawi and the Egyptian al-Ghazali raise a great commotion against some of the young men who are raised upon the methodology of the Book and the Sunnah and upon what the righteous Salaf were upon. So when someone gives them a fatwa and they ask, “What is the evidence?” they raise a great commotion against them. Who are you to ask, “What is the evidence?” You must ask the jurists and the people of specialization and knowledge. And yet they fall into the very thing they denounce in the young men, and they are sheikhs, in that they do not take the opinion of the people of specialization in the science of hadith.
The questioner: That is correct.
The Shaykh : I know al-Qaradawi personally, and I lived with him in Qatar for days, and we met with him repeatedly in a council called the Supreme Council at the Islamic University. He trusts my knowledge and knows my firmness in it. And yet, now, in order to smooth over some of the bad occurrences in the Muslim world, you find him authenticating what is weak and weakening what is authentic in this hadith. Therefore, our Muslim brothers, whether they are women or men, should know, as the old Arabic proverb says, “how to eat the shoulder,” meaning that today, as you know, knowledge is a science with branches of specialization. For example, a person afflicted with an earache does not go to a specialist in internal diseases, such as the stomach or intestines, and so on, but goes to a man specialized in ears, and so on. This specialization is very necessary, and this is among the meanings of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nahl 16:43]. So al-Qaradawi and those like him, al-Ghazali and the like, are not among the people of knowledge of hadith in terms of authenticating and weakening. If they have some knowledge, it is traditional fiqh, not the fiqh derived from the Book and the Sunnah.
I have spoken at length to you first, and now to you second.
The questioner: May Allah keep you safe.
The Shaykh : And we will suffice with this much for now, to make room for those who may be waiting for the call to end, among the questioners. And peace be upon you.
The questioner: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. May Allah reward you with good. The Shaykh : And to you.
