Is it permissible for one who invests donation funds outside of working hours without the permission of the competent authority to take any of them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : All right, Shaykh, when shall we finish, or shall we return to our topic?

The Shaykh : No, there is no set time, please go ahead.

The questioner : One of the brothers, Shaykh, is engaged in charitable work. He received a sum of donations, and he is supposed to distribute these donations, but he invested them in a commercial venture.

The Shaykh : For his own benefit?

The questioner : No, not for his own benefit. When he invested them, naturally, the investor—the profit—when he wanted to return it, he said, "I worked outside of working hours, what is called outside of work. His job was six hours, but he worked eight hours." So he says, "Give me compensation for these hours I worked." And he was not authorized by the committee; the committee did not authorize him to do this and did not permit him to do this... So is it permissible for him to take any of the profits? And is it permissible for him to work with them?

The Shaykh : And they will not authorize it, if Allah wills. They will not authorize him, and it is not permissible for him.

The questioner : To invest them?

The Shaykh : And this is one of the calamities of being employed in such charitable works, because it is a trial in reality. If the money falls into the hands of this person for the purpose of distributing it to good or to those entitled to this good, and he exploits it to put it in his own pocket.

The questioner : And if it is established that he is trustworthy, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for him to do so. In the name of Allah.

The questioner : ... He called you once and had gathered for you words on hadith terminology and such. Do you remember, Shaykh? He has a concern for books.

The Shaykh : If he has something, a remark, that we can benefit from, that is what matters to us.

The questioner : May Allah bless you, our Shaykh.
