How to reconcile what is in al-Silsilah al-Da'ifah with what is in Da'if al-Jami'?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the book Da'if al-Jami', there are rulings on some hadiths. For example, a hadith is marked as weak, such as
Love of this world is the head of every sin حب الدنيا رأس كل خطيئة
, and the reference for this weak hadith is one thousand, two hundred, and twenty-six. So, the weak and fabricated hadiths were included in the tracing and the detailed analysis.

The Shaykh : This happens often. So, take from the detailed work and leave the general one. Do you understand what I mean? Take what is detailed in al-Silsilah al-Da'ifah and correct it against what is general in Da'if al-Jami'. This is because the term "weak" includes, among the hadith scholars, all categories of weakness, including weak, very weak, and fabricated. So, if you find a contradiction between what is in this abridged work in terms of notification and what is in that detailed work with its explanation, and it is weak or fabricated, it is better to rely on that. I say this as a general principle. However, it is possible that if you review it again, the matter might be reversed. The issue is that we always review our old publications, so no book of ours is published without new refinement. If my copy were in my hand right now, we might find some correction regarding this specific hadith or others. In any case, do not be surprised by such a contradiction, even though it is not a prominent contradiction, such as a hadith being mentioned in al-Sahihah and appearing in al-Da'ifah. This also happens, so no one should be surprised by it, because the science of hadith is very vast and difficult. A hadith might be weak from one route, but it becomes valid for us later through the combination of its routes, or it becomes good, or something similar. It might be good, and we graded it as good in some books, and then we discover a defect that was not apparent to us previously, and we discover it, so we return and retract that grading as good or authentic that we had previously adopted. This is due to human weakness, which Allah the Mighty and Majestic has created in us, so that a person does not raise his head and become arrogant, but rather he is humble before Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so that he may increase in knowledge upon knowledge.
Al-Halabi : On the same point, in the first volume of al-Silsilah al-Da'ifah, some of this occurred regarding the Imam al-Suyuti, where he ruled a hadith as weak and ruled another hadith as fabricated. So, you sought an excuse for him based on what you mentioned, and I said, except if we note that a fabricated hadith is one of the categories of a weak hadith.

The Shaykh : All right, may Allah reward you with good. This is well known.
