The questioner : So what do you advise us to do, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : I advise you to fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and to seek knowledge sincerely for His sake. Do not show off to people, and do not concern yourself with them, whether your concern is that they be pleased with you, or that you not care about them even if they are angry with you. Allah is sufficient for you and for the believers who follow you.

The questioner: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.

The questioner : Do you advise me to read a specific book?

The Shaykh : In what? In which science?

The questioner : In hadith. I have started, meaning, reading in terminology. I have read some books on terminology and I have read the book *Usul al-Takhrij* (Principles of Tracing Hadiths) by al-Tahan.

The Shaykh : Do not read the works of the later scholars.

The questioner : What do you advise regarding *Usul al-Takhrij* (Principles of Tracing Hadiths)?

The Shaykh : You will understand *Usul al-Takhrij* (Principles of Tracing Hadiths) when you practice this science. The one who wrote this book did not practice this science. Look at his comments on al-Tabarani’s *Middle Collection* (*al-Mu'jam al-Awsat*).

The questioner: Correct.

The Shaykh : We only say that those who have not yet obtained a doctorate can do it.

The questioner : Yes. May Allah reward you with good. Your words are correct.

The Shaykh : And beware of that.

The questioner : Did the early scholars write on *Usul al-Takhrij* (Principles of Tracing Hadiths)?

The Shaykh: No.

The questioner : Is there a book on it?

The Shaykh: No.

The questioner : Okay, good. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And you too, my brother.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
