Questioned about the validity of shaking hands when parting.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : And regarding parting?

The Shaykh : Yes. ?

The questioner : How is shaking hands when parting?

The Shaykh : Shaking hands when parting is recommended, not like when meeting. The hadiths that have come regarding shaking hands when meeting are numerous and well-known; as for when parting, they are few and very rare. There is a hadith in *Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah* by Ibn al-Suni with a weak chain of narration: that he (peace and blessings be upon him) or some of his Companions — I have now forgotten the details — used to pray upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and shake hands when they parted. This is one of the few hadiths that came regarding shaking hands when parting. And because of their rarity, we distinguish between shaking hands when meeting, which is a recommended practice, and shaking hands when parting, which is a recommended practice.
