Handshaking after the greeting.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Furthermore, it is prescribed to shake hands when greeting someone upon meeting, as it is mentioned in the hadith
When two men meet and shake hands, their sins fall off just as leaves fall from a tree. أن الرجلين إذا التقيا فتصافحا فإن ذنوبهما تتحات كما تحات ورقة الشجرة منها
, because handshaking fosters affection. Therefore, handshaking upon meeting is part of the Sunnah. However, what some people do today is not part of the Sunnah: when they meet you, they take hold of your head instead of shaking your hand. There is no doubt that this goes against the Sunnah. I am not aware of any scholar who said that it is recommended to take hold of the head; rather, they said one should shake hands. If the person is worthy of having his head or forehead kissed, such as a father or an elder brother, then one may kiss his head or forehead. But if, from the moment he meets you, he takes hold of your head, kisses your head, and does not shake your hand—kissing your head, saying the greeting, and then leaving—this is what some people do, and it goes against the Sunnah. Shake hands first, and then, if the person is worthy of having his head or forehead kissed, kiss it.
