The questioner : The question is in the field of hadith that the brother mentioned. The Shaykh : Muhammad, regarding the stories and hadiths that come on the tongues of some shaykhs, for example, and the story I heard which was reported on the tongue ofThe Shaykh : Abdul Hamid Kashk, in which I see a great contradiction, in the sense that I cannot believe it was attributed or even mentioned in history. The story, as he mentioned it, says that some people were drinking from a waterskin containing khamr (intoxicants). 'Umar ibn al-Khattab passed by them the first time, and when he saw them, he threatened that he would flog them if he saw them drinking khamr a second time. So he passed by them while they were at a distance, and the man saw 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, so he supplicated that the khamr be turned into vinegar. The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The questioner : Yes, so when 'Umar ibn al-Khattab asked what was in the waterskin, he said that what was in the waterskin was vinegar, so 'Umar ibn al-Khattab smelled it, and it was vinegar. In my opinion, this contains a type of contradiction and violation of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), because the person is in sin and supplicates to Allah to save him from the sin while he is doing it. Also, it is mentioned about Abdul Hamid Kashk that he narrates and says some weak hadiths whose sanad (chain of narration) is not correct. My question regarding this scientific field is that Kashk has a great influence on the youth today, and he mentions weak hadiths and stories?

The Shaykh : The truth is that this story you transmitted from the man, it has not passed me, neither in the authentic hadiths, nor the good ones, nor the weak ones, nor the fabricated ones, nor those that have no basis. And another sad truth is thatThe Shaykh : this Kashk, it is not denied at all that his style has an influence on the general people, a strange style, but I do not mean that this style is a prescribed (mashru') style, because he uses emotion and stirring the emotions of the attendees, with things like ordering the prayer upon the Messenger and "increase it in prayer," and "listen to me," and so on. But in the end, his style is influential, but unfortunately, I believe he is a storyteller and not a scholar, especially in the field of Prophetic hadith. He is a collector, in addition to being a storyteller; he gathers whatever comes from the hadiths and preaches to the people with them and reminds them of them. Here enters as a cause that leads such a preacher to deviation, ... .
