The Shaykh Al-Albani’s advice to 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd al-Khaliq and his remarks on blocs and partisanship in Kuwait.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The praise is for Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own selves and from the evil of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He misguides, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. As for what follows:
He wroteThe Shaykh : 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd al-Khaliq (may Allah preserve him) a letter addressed to me, dated 12 Jumada al-Ula, 1410 AH, in which he mentions that a recorded tape was found in which I allegedly said that Brother 'Abd al-Rahman was ruined by his politics and corrupted by his partisanship; he requestsThe Shaykh : 'Abd al-Rahman, in the aforementioned letter, that I respond to this statement attributed to me; and based on his request, I dictated the following:
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. I listened to a recorded tape of the voice of our noble brotherThe Shaykh : Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Yamani (may Allah reward him with good), and then to the words of some of his students who supported his statement. I, Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, add my voice to all of theirs, and I find nothing in their words that warrants stopping to examine or consider, except what was attributed to me regarding our noble brother 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd al-Khaliq, namely that he is influenced by the thought of the Muslim Brotherhood, and that he has diluted and ruined his youth. We ask Allah to guide him. I do not recall having uttered these exact words in this precise phrasing, unless I hear my own voice recorded on a tape saying so. I am not saying this out of caution or to evade responsibility; rather, in reality, I see that the bloc formation and enthusiasm for bloc formation among the Salafis in Kuwait, especially since they follow the path of the Muslim Brotherhood, both past and present, is a bloc formation of Muslim youth without concern for educating them with the Islamic culture based on the Book and the Sunnah and the methodology of the righteous predecessors, as is the call of all Muslims who adhere to this correct Islamic methodology. Therefore, I fear, and I fear greatly, that the Salafi call in Kuwait and in other countries that may be affected by this new bloc formation or partisanship will regress, and they will emulate the very path of the Muslim Brotherhood that I mentioned earlier, which is based on the saying of some of them: "Form a bloc, then educate." And after that, there is nothing but bloc formation and partisanship. Our greatest proof for this is that sixty years have passed since the Muslim Brotherhood, and no effect of their call has been seen among them that produced a single scholar among their ranks to whom people would turn to know the matters of their religion according to the aforementioned methodology. Therefore, we want our Salafi brothers in Kuwait and in all lands of Islam to focus on education rather than bloc formation, because this is the call of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), indeed of all the prophets, and then the desired gathering and the desirable bloc formation will arise.
Therefore, we say the opposite of what was said earlier; we say: "Educate, then form a bloc." And education cannot truly be achieved with the presence of one, two, or three scholars for the thousands who respond generally to the Salafi call and form a partisan bloc. If there are not dozens of scholars in this group who are well-versed in the correct creed and correct knowledge, the group will eventually turn into a group with no knowledge and no upbringing in correct knowledge, contrary to our blessed call which is based on purification and upbringing. For this reason, I fear, and I fear greatly, that the situation of the Salafi group, when they focus on bloc formation without education, will turn into another group with no connection to the correct call.
It is as if I feel the effect of this preoccupation in the words of our brother 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd al-Khaliq himself in some of his letters, such as his statement in his letter "Muslims and Political Work," where he said on page 21: "And there is no doubt that one of the errors of the first methodology is that it imposes statements in religion for which there is no evidence, such as forbidding groups and parties..." and so on. It is clear that he does not mean the bloc formation of Muslims into one group and one party, because such a thing is something in which all Muslims share in calling for it. Rather, the intended meaning of the previous phrase, even if it used the singular form "group and party," is groups and parties. In that case, the prohibited thing observed today among all groups and parties occurs, as those brothers indicated in the aforementioned tape. And here, the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) applies to all of them:
each faction, in what it has, rejoicing. كل حزب بما لديهم فرحون
[Al-Mu'minun 23:53]
We want it to be one party, as Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
Unquestionably, the party of Allah - they are the successful. ألا إن حزب الله هم الغالبون
[Al-Mujadila 58:22]
And among that is the statement of Brother 'Abd al-Rahman (may Allah guide us and him) in the same letter, on page 65, and after words that, in my opinion, contradict each other, he stated firmly: "So Muslims cannot practice trade, agriculture, industry, or any work except by committing some of the forbidden that the reality contrary to religion has imposed." In that case, is there not in this statement an acknowledgment of the reality of Muslims today who deal with many riba transactions that contradict the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect. ومن يتق الله يجعل له مخرجا ويرزقه من حيث لا يحتسب
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
? And is there not in this statement a definitive judgment against the letter of Brother 'Abd al-Rahman, which I was very pleased with when I read it and examined it closely, namely "The Decisive Statement on Deferred Sale"? For most of today's traders deal with this sale. I found a clear contradiction between these two statements, and I do not think this is anything but the effect of this partisan bloc formation and political work that forces them to fall into some of the religious violations; therefore, it was said that a Muslim cannot work except by committing some of the forbidden.
This is what I dictated. Then some of the brothers played for me a tape in which I recorded questions from one of the Sudanese brothers regarding the aforementioned letter "Muslims and Political Work," in which I said about Brother 'Abd al-Rahman, I think: "His politics have corrupted him." I acknowledge this statement, because I heard it from my own voice, and the aforementioned tape supports that, and what preceded earlier aligns with it. This does not negate, in my view, that Brother 'Abd al-Rahman (may Allah preserve him) is still with us in the Salafi call, even if he is occupied with political work. All there is is the fear of deviation from it, especially since some signs have appeared in the atmosphere, as mentioned earlier. Also, I do not name those who criticize him in some of his actions, and not in his creed, as being among the envious and jealous of the Salafi call, who try to cut the connection between us and Brother 'Abd al-Rahman. How can we be so, when we are all Salafis, and the perfection of our call, praise be to Allah, is mutual advice and enjoining good and forbidding evil? Even if the advisor’s style becomes harsh at times, I ask Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) for us and for all Islamic callers to be guided and successful on the straight path.
