What is the ruling on buying a car on installment?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, what is the ruling on buying a car from a company on installment, given that cash is not available and the car, as you know, is a necessary need in this time?

The Shaykh : I do not think that if oneThe questioner : believes with us that installment sales which take an increase in the price over the need, I do not think there is a necessity to permit this forbidden thing if oneThe questioner : believes with us that this increase, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, is riba:
If anyone makes two transactions combined in one bargain, he should have the lesser of the two or it will involve usury.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3461Hasan (Al-Albani)

The questioner : He is asking for clarification

The Shaykh : So there is no necessity whatsoever for a Muslim to permit himself to consume forbidden wealth, except in one case which I may not imagine exists in this country, and that is a blessing from Allah upon us and upon people, which is that one dies of hunger. This is what we have heard of in this country, even though we hear of famines in Africa and those regions, and we do not know if they are facts or exaggerations; Allah knows best. But the important point is that the necessity which permits consuming the forbidden is the necessity without which, or without taking the cause to eliminate its consequence, the Muslim would be exposed to destruction. So I do not think a person should use a car, whether it is a car for riding for the individual or the family, or for using it in buying and selling, transporting and loading, or the like. And the Muslim must always and forever place before his eyes the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, and proceed from it always, not letting it leave his mind and his heart, and that is His saying, Mighty and Majestic:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
I believe that one of the misfortunes of the Islamic world as a whole is the absence of correct faith from their hearts, because if this faith settles in the heart of any person, he is content with any difficult, straitened life, because he believes that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in His decreeing straitness and poverty for people, does so with justice and knowledge, and indeed with wisdom. So if the Muslim believes in this truth with firm belief, then life becomes pleasant to him, however difficult his life may be, whether in terms of wealth, or lack of health, or the pressure of tyrants and unjust rulers, or the like. So he is patient and arms himself with patience, and he remembers the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in addition to the verse:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
He remembers with it the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
The affair of the believer is wonderful in its entirety. If good befalls him, he praises Allah and is grateful, and it is better for him. And if bad befalls him, he is patient, and it is better for him. So the affair of the believer is all good, and that is not so except for the believer.
And based on what you heard from some of the words of Professor Abu Malik, may Allah reward him with good, a hadith came to my mind, and now its occasion has arrived, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Richness does not lie in the abundance of (worldly) goods but richness is the richness of the soul (heart, self).
Sahih Muslim 1051
So whenever the Muslim is rich in spirit, he does not find a necessity to deal in riba. And dealing in riba is not only that he consumes riba, but also that he feeds others riba. And for that reason he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses
Sahih Muslim 1598
