Is it permissible to name the university the university haram?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That means that any part of the earth, no matter how noble and clean it is, if some ignorant people in many Islamic countries name the university the university haram, this is a mistaken naming, because they liken these universities to the haram, wishing they were established upon the rulings of the Shari'ah. They call it what? The haram, likening the university to the Makkah and Madinah harams. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took precautions regarding the modesty of women, covering them, and keeping a distance between them and men in the best of places, what is the case with universities? If they are not the worst of places, like markets, due to the mixing that occurs in them, they are at least not among the best of places. And this is not the only thing the Messenger (peace be upon him) prescribed regarding the separation between men and women in the best of places; there are other matters that require the attention of the jurist and oblige him never to permit mixing between men and women in any other place. For example, the well-known hadith
the best of the men’s row is the first and the worst of them is the last, but the best of the women’s rows is the last and the worst of them is the first. خير صفوف الرجال أولها وشرها آخرها وخير صفوف النساء آخرها وشرها أولها
Sunan Abi Dawud 678Sahih (Al-Albani)
Even in the best of places, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first separated men from women decisively. It is not permissible for women to mix with men in their rows, nor is it permissible for men to mix with the rows of women. He (peace be upon him) made a complete separation in the best of places between men and women while they are praying and standing before Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). He placed the men in the front and the women in the back. He did not stop there but said:
The worst of the rows of men is the last one شر صفوف الرجال آخرها
Why? Because this last row is close and near to the first row of women. So he made the last row of men the worst of the rows, just as he made the first row of women the worst of the rows. All of this is for the sake of blocking the means to harm. The door of blocking the means to harm, which Islam brought, was adopted by the Westerners in their material lives, but the credit for establishing and formulating it belongs to our religion. Here is the Messenger (peace be upon him) saying:
the best of the women’s rows is the last خير صفوف النساء آخرها وشر صفوف الرجال آخرها
Sunan Abi Dawud 678Sahih (Al-Albani)
The Messenger (peace be upon him) did not stop at these details either. It is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to remain in his place for a moment after finishing the prayer. One of the narrators, and the scholars of hadith differ on this, some saying this statement is from the narrator of the hadith, Umm Salimah, and some saying it is from one of the narrators of the hadith, the Imam al-Zuhri. In any case, it is a warning to be extremely cautious of the wise Lawgiver. The Messenger (peace be upon him) used to remain in his place for a moment after saying the taslim of the prayer. The narrator said, "We thought he did that so the women would leave before the men, so they would not mix in the path." The fact that the women left and then the men stood up: if the Messenger (peace be upon him) legislated, by the command of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), from the height of His majesty, this precise legislation to keep the two sexes apart from each other, what do we say about these universities in the fifteenth century, where there is no Islamic upbringing? This Islamic upbringing, without a doubt, cannot be imagined to be more complete than it was in the time of the Messenger (peace be upon him). Yet he took all these precautions so that not a single harm would occur. And among the strange things is what Imam Ahmad and others reported regarding the reason for the revelation of the statement of the Exalted:
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come]. ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم ولقد علمنا المستأخرين
[Al-Hijr 15:24]
Yes, this verse was revealed concerning a man from the Companions who intentionally prayed in the last row because he saw a beautiful woman praying in the first row, and he was trying to steal a glance. When he prostrated, he looked under his armpit.
Al-Halabi : Bishr.

The Shaykh : Perhaps he could see that beautiful, lovely woman. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed this verse as upbringing and a reminder that nothing is hidden from Him on earth or in the sky. He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come]. ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم ولقد علمنا المستأخرين
[Al-Hijr 15:24]
If this happened in the brightest era and in the purest place, what do we say today about what may happen, or if we do not say what may have happened, what do we say today about these universities that were not established upon the mindfulness of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He)? There is no harm in speaking. Therefore, we say it is not permissible for either sex to enter to seek that knowledge, which in its best state is a collective obligation and not an individual obligation. We do not advise anyone from either sex to seek such knowledge in a university that permits mixing between the sexes. It is not permissible for young men to enter them, nor for young women to belong to them, even if there is no university that adopts the ruling of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in separating women and men. For women there is a university, and for men there is a university. This is not found except in some Islamic countries, and perhaps it is the only one, as we hear, and I know this only by hearing. In Saudi Arabia, there is a university exclusively for girls, completely separated from what? The young men. And part of the Saudi state's caution in this area, which is truly something to be thanked for, is that the male teacher does not face the girls directly. Even though the girls there usually cover their faces, the male teacher and lecturer does not stand in front of the girls. Rather, the girls see him from a place where he does not see them. Yes, via television. He delivers the lecture, and this lecture is shown as we always see, a man speaking in, for example, Cairo in Egypt, in Saudi Arabia, so we see him delivering it, and we are here too. The girls there do not have the teacher deliver the lesson in the same place where the women are, but from behind walls. However, the women see the male lecturer. And this undoubtedly has an impact in terms of taking the words from the mouth of the professor while the gaze falls upon him.
