The questioner : What is the meaning of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him):
You are in fact endowed with a sweet voice like that of David himself. لقد أوتيت مزماراً من مزامير ءال داوود
Sahih Muslim 793e
?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and those who follow them in excellence until the Day of Judgment. The meaning of this hadith is that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, Abdullah ibn Qays (may Allah be pleased with him), had a good voice and a fine, pleasant delivery. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) listened to his recitation one night and told him that he was pleased with it. He said, "Did you hear my recitation, O Messenger of Allah?" He said:
Yes نعم
He said, "If I had known, I would have adorned it for you with adornment." The meaning of being given a flute from the flutes of the family of David is that David (peace be upon him) was given the Zabur by Allah, and he would sing with it. He had a beautiful voice, so much so that the mountains would glorify Allah with him and the birds would glorify Allah with him, standing in rows to listen to his singing with the Zabur and taking pleasure in his recitation. This is the meaning of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
You have been given one of the mazamir (sweet melodious voices) of the family of David. أوتيت مزماراً من مزامير ءال داوود
Sahih al-Bukhari 5048
.
It is known that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mean that he was given a flute for entertainment and playing, for he listened to his recitation, not to his playing. Musical instruments are forbidden, and it is not permissible to listen to them except for what the Shari'ah has exempted, such as hand drums on wedding nights or upon the arrival of a respected, distinguished absentee, and the like. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. The questioner says.
