He was asked about those who follow a sunnah (recommended practice) from the sunnahs of the Companions, such as (Uthman's adhan), and cite the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Follow my sunnah and the sunnah of the

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Many people, or rather some people, speak about certain sunnahs, such as the pre-Jumu'ah sunnah, and also the adhan, meaning making two adhans for Jumu'ah. So when you ask them, I asked some doctors, they said: We follow the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Follow my sunnah and the sunnah of the guiding Caliphs after me, the Rightly Guided ones after me. عليكم بسنتي و سنة الخلافاء المهدين من بعدي الراشدين من بعدي
So he said that by this, meaning it is the sunnah, the Caliphs followed it.

The Shaykh : Uthman ibn Affan.

The questioner : Uthman is understood to be among the Caliphs, so it would be like the sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). What is your opinion of this citation? This method of citation indicates that it is a sunnah by this hadith
You must therefore follow my sunna and that of the rightly guided Caliphs عليكم بسنتي و سنة الخلفاء الراشدين من بعدي
Mishkat al-Masabih 165Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
and they cite many actions performed by the Rightly Guided Caliphs, saying in them: "It is a sunnah," as long as it is established in this hadith?

The Shaykh : Yes. Our answer to this doubt is known. First, they misunderstand this hadith, because the meaning of the hadith "Follow my sunnah and the sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs" is not "and the sunnah of any one of the Rightly Guided Caliphs." No, that is not the meaning. Rather, the intended meaning is the sunnah of all the Rightly Guided Caliphs. And when that is the case, their citation is invalid, is it not, Abu Abd al-Rahman?
Abu Abd al-Rahman: You are right, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : When your companion tried to force you to accept his statement and you refused him, and now you have agreed with what I said, may Allah reward you with good. This is the first point. The second point: The sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs was commanded because it is a custom that first conforms to the sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and then it may be indicative of it. It may be indicative of it, and it does not mean, or this hadith does not mean, "Take the sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs even if it contradicts my sunnah." And I derive this meaning of this hadith from a verse in the Noble Qur'an, and no one can interpret it in the manner that that doctor interpreted the hadith of 'Arba'd ibn Sari'ah. The verse is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination. و من يشاقق الرسول من بعد ما تبيّن له الهدى و يتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين نوله ما تولي و نصله جهنم و ساءت مصيرا
[An-Nisa 4:115]
and follows other than the path of the believers. By its standard of indication, the Rightly Guided Caliphs and their sunnah.
The student : Praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : May Allah have mercy on you. And regarding the sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, no one can say:
and follows other than the way of the believers و يتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين
[An-Nisa 4:115]
meaning other than the path of one believer, but rather all of them.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And the verse here, in terms of its indication of the generality of the Muslims, is like the hadith in terms of its indication of the generality of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. So when this correct understanding of the hadith is clarified, their citation falls, falls completely from its root. And if they insist, and they may insist on more than that?

The questioner : Shaykh, but this is a new point?

The Shaykh : It may be new relatively.

The questioner : Ah, relatively.

The Shaykh : But Allah is my witness that since I was in Sham,

The questioner : What Allah willed.

The Shaykh : and I have affirmed this meaning for this hadith.

The questioner : for this comparison.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.

The questioner : between the verse and the hadith?

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : Yes, very good.

The Shaykh : Yes, so if we assume.

The questioner : You will develop on both matters, we will listen to you, by Allah, repeat it.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Abu Layli...

The Shaykh : Heh.
The students: Heh.
