Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : That he has relatives who do not pray except on Friday, and he has read that one who abandons prayer is not visited when ill, is not greeted, and it is not permissible for anyone to speak with him. Is this statement permissible, or is it contrary to that? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for you regarding these relatives to first advise them and admonish them, and to bring them advice from others if they do not value your advice, either through writing or through audio. If they persist in what they are doing, which is abandoning prayer, then boycott them, do not visit them, and do not attend their invitations, because abandoning prayer is disbelief that expels one from the religion. However, the questioner mentioned that they pray on Friday.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This necessitates suspending the ruling of their disbelief, because the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed regarding one who abandons prayer: does he become a disbeliever if he abandons one obligatory prayer, or two, or does he not become a disbeliever unless he abandons prayer absolutely, meaning: the Friday prayer and others? But in any case, boycotting these people if they refuse to accept advice is from the prescribed matters. Perhaps if they are boycotted and their relatives cut them off, they will return, find the right path, and turn back to their senses. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This is a message received from a listener of the program. The listener did not mention his name here. He says, he asks and says.
