The Shaykh : He said: "And the fifth is composition from the Self with the *** attributes; this is by a second terminology
They called it composition, and that is their placement *** of what is not in custom or the Qur'an"

The fifth is composition from the Self and the attributes. For example, a human being is a human, a Self, and his attributes are life, knowledge, power, hearing, sight, and the like. They said, "This is composition." How is it composition? They said, "This is composition from the Self and from the attributes, so they called this composition." From this, they denied the attributes of Allah. They said, "Because if we affirmed an attribute for Allah, what would follow? Composition would follow." But Ibn al-Qayyim refuted them and said: "They called it composition, and that is their placement ***"
Meaning, it is a terminology and not from the usage of the language. "*** What is not in custom or the Qur'an"
Meaning, this is not in the custom of the people of language, nor in the noble Arabic Qur'an, that the described and its attribute are always two composed things. Rather, the described cannot exist without an attribute. Every existent must have an attribute.
