Fitting Teeth with Gold
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 3319 )
Q: I have some damaged teeth, and I wanted to have them fitted with marble, but the doctor advised me to have them fitted with gold; because fitting them with anything other than gold causes harm later, according to the doctor. I have heard from many people that it is not permissible to fit teeth with gold, so I am raising this matter to Allah and then to you to give me the correct ruling on this issue. Also, if a person dies and has gold teeth, are they buried with him in the grave? Please inform us, may Allah guide you to what is good. Amen.
A: If the doctor is skilled in dentistry and sees that the best option for you is to fit the tooth with gold rather than anything else, it is permissible for you to do so; otherwise, it is not. If he dies, the gold is removed from him, in order to preserve the wealth and avoid what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade, which is wasting it, unless removing it harms his body or causes a split, in which case it is buried with him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
