(Refuting the Sufis in this chapter) Beware lest your foot slip and you fall into a pit *** How many a worshipper has fallen into it over the ages, his foot slipping through ignorance, and he fell

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Beware lest your foot slip and you fall into a pit *** How many a worshipper has fallen into it over the ages
His foot slipping through ignorance, and he fell to the bottom of the lowly abyss
The lights of the effects of wor *** ship appeared to him, and he took them to be the lights of the Most Merciful
So he brought about every calamity and affliction *** Whatever you wish of extravagance and delirium"

"Beware lest your foot slip" means beware that your foot does not slip and you fall into a pit. A pit is a low place, and when a person's foot slips and there is a pit beneath him, he falls and perishes. What is this saying?
"How many a worshipper has fallen into it over the ages, his foot slipping through ignorance, and he fell to the bottom of the lowly abyss"
The abyss is deep. "The lowly"
"The lights of the effects of wor *** ship appeared to him, and he took them to be the lights of the Most Merciful
So he brought about every calamity and affliction *** Whatever you wish of extravagance and delirium"

This returns to the Sufis. The Sufis have a type of worship, but they have great misguidance. Sometimes lights appear to them, a light in the heart, and they think that is the light of the Lord, and they claim that the Lord has entered into them, may Allah protect us from that. Or lights appear to them from outside and their chests expand, and they think that is the light of the Lord and claim that it has entered this place. For you know that when a person's chest is narrow, the light becomes darkness for him, and when his chest expands and his chest opens, he sees everything as light. These, may Allah protect us from them, the Sufis, Satan beautified their deeds for them, so he would send to their hearts lights of Satan, not of the Most Merciful, which makes them think that this is the light of the Lord. So they turn the created light into the light of the attribute, the light of the Creator, Mighty and Majestic, and they think it is the light of Allah. And the author says:
"The lights of the effects of wor *** ship appeared to him, and he took them to be the lights of the Most Merciful" This is attributed to an ignorant Sufi. As for the knowledgeable Sufi, whatever he does of an action contrary to the Sunnah is not worship. But the ignorant one may worship with an innovated thing, thinking it is the Shari'ah and truth, so he is rewarded for his intention. As for the one who opposes, no.
