The Shaykh’s discussion with one of the students regarding the permissibility or impermissibility of seeking assistance from the Jews.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : No problem, keep your patience, remain in my good opinion. The best speech is what is brief and to the point. Now, why this enthusiasm for the scholars’ fatwa only after the event has already happened? Are you asking now?The Shaykh : To delve into the details and those proofs? I am telling you frankly, you are influenced by our noble brother here, Khalid, who boasts that they relied on texts from the Book and the Sunnah. Do you now want to engage with these proofs that you boast they relied upon to permit seeking assistance from disbelievers? I am not saying "disbelievers" now for the sake of clarification, but rather I am saying they used them as evidence for the permissibility of seeking assistance from the Jews.

The questioner : First, Shaykh, did I boast about these? Does that mean?

The Shaykh : We erased it, according to our friend’s statement, we withdrew it. No problem, it is withdrawn, good. Now, I ask for the answer. These proofs that you mention, let us not say you boast about them, good. Do they indicate the permissibility of seeking assistance from the Jews?

The questioner : According to what I was told, my sheikhs. The Shaykh : Rabi' andThe Shaykh : Muhammad Ameen, and some sheikhs said yes, that seeking assistance is permissible.

The Shaykh : Seeking assistance from the Jews. Do you know that the Jews today are the most bitter enemies of the Muslims?

The questioner : I know.

The Shaykh : And how is it permissible to seek their assistance?

The questioner : According to what is mentioned in the proofs.

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you. Do you know that this answer you are giving now, no,The Shaykh : Rabi' nor Ameen, nor anyone other than Ameen, no one says this.

The questioner : Which one, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : It is not about the enmity of the Jews, but with the Jews.

The questioner : Well, are there no Jews in America, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : He is asking me. I summarized the question for you to alert you, Abu Jabir. How can the body of scholars say it is permissible to seek assistance from the most bitter enemies of the religion? How? O people.

The questioner : This, Shaykh, is an issue you have now brought us into. Whether it is permissible or not, and the proofs. Frankly, I mean, I am not, Shaykh, with that much knowledge.

The Shaykh : What is your question to the Shaykh?

The questioner : I say, according to what reached me, it cameThe Shaykh : Rabi' wrote a book on that, and I read it and was convinced by it. Perhaps you can now present some proofs to me, and I may reconsider when the truth becomes apparent to me.

The Shaykh : I asked you a question and you did not answer me. What was your question to the Shaykh? What did you insist on? What is it?

The questioner : That these scholars brought proofs from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah.

The Shaykh : No, they did not bring proofs from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah.

The questioner : I tell you some of the proofs.

The Shaykh : Bring it so we can see.

The questioner : The hadith thatThe Shaykh : Rabi' mentioned in his treatise.

The Shaykh : Do not name them, my sheikhs, because it is enough for me. I am different from you. Do you want to expand the circle of disagreement a little? Bring me some of the proofs so that you can rest your mind and save my time and your time at the same time. Look, think, use your mind, and select from the proofs you read from Zayd or Bakr or 'Amr, and bring me now the strongest proof that it is permissible for the Muslim state to seek assistance from the state that is the most bitter enemy of Islam and all Muslims. Bring the greatest proof.

The questioner : A hadith to the effect that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a group of Jews who were on the outskirts of Madinah and asked them either to lend him weapons or to fight with him. He said, "Either lend us weapons or fight with us," or as he said (peace and blessings be upon him). This is what some scholars used as evidence for the permissibility of seeking assistance from the Jews.

The Shaykh : And are you convinced by this proof?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : The strength here, if the hadith is authentic, and keep this in mind, if the hadith is authentic, the strength here, the predominant strength, is for the one seeking assistance or for the one being sought for assistance? Is this strength for the one seeking assistance or the one being sought for assistance?

The questioner : For the one seeking assistance.

The Shaykh : Does the incident for which they used this hadith as evidence fit this description?

The questioner : No, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good. Do you know now how jurisprudence is and how knowledge is? And finally, may Allah reward you with good, how is your fairness?
Shuqara: By the way, so that our brother Abu Jabir does not remain troubled by the word "boast," "boast" does not mean blame, our Shaykh, absolutely not. Rather, "boast" means displaying something with strength and so on.

The questioner : But, Shaykh, there is a note.

The Shaykh : Wait, I am with you. What do you want fromThe Shaykh : Yes, you are saying you did not answer him.

The questioner : The issue that they used proofs as evidence.

The Shaykh : Did I not tell you that these are illusions and not proofs? What do you want?

The questioner : The hadith is not an illusion, Shaykh. And even if you distinguish the situation, Shaykh, but this is a point of view, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : But he is wrong.

The questioner : Let us suppose he is wrong.

The Shaykh : Why do you suppose? You are now admitting that this is a mistake.

The questioner : Because this is a point of view. If he came to discuss with you, he might not agree with you.

The Shaykh : No, he has no answer at all. Because you, now, being a student of knowledge like me, thought about it and found a difference between the Messenger, the one with the power and authority, and the state regarding the Jews, and so on, and a small state that has no readiness to fight this idol, which is Saddam Hussein, so it seeks assistance from the strongest state in the world. If it wanted to sweep away the Islamic lands in a moonless night, neither Saudi Arabia nor any other could stand against it. What is the proof for this? But anyway, what do you want fromThe Shaykh ؟

The questioner : There is a proof. That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called upon Allah

The Shaykh : Allow me. I asked you for the greatest proof, and you presented the greatest proof, and it collapsed, so what follows will collapse. But tell me, what do you want fromThe Shaykh ؟

The questioner : Criticizing the journey, Shaykh, may Allah bless you. And they say that they are under pressure. It is not that these people have a point of view and their proofs.

The Shaykh : Shaykh, this fatwa was issued after the event had already happened, not that you should improve your opinion of the rulers, because the rulers do not rule by what Allah has revealed. And you see the open sinfulness and immorality proceeding despite the noses of all the sheikhs. So if the sheikhs had stood up as one against this government, they would have stopped it at its limit. But it does what it wants despite the noses of the sheikhs. And therefore, this fatwa was issued after, or the event had already happened. So Haidar and others did not bring the body of scholars and say to them, "Look, the issue is such and such and such," and so on. What is your opinion? Saddam is a Ba'athist, a disbeliever, an atheist. We fear he will take control of our country after he has taken control of Kuwait, and so on. We seek assistance from the Jews, we seek assistance from the Americans, we seek assistance from the British, we seek assistance from those who brought the Jews to Palestine, and so on. You will not find a scholar who says it is permissible.
