What is the extent of the Salafis' relationship with politics?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Layla : If we were to conclude, our Shaykh, this matter of yours with a brief summary, so that the brother, I mean...

The Shaykh : It is a blessed opinion. Explain it to him. He is babbling. Who is babbling better than you? It appears so.

The questioner : No, I want to ask you a question. He is babbling with you. Record it for me, I mean.
Abu Layla : You or the brother, give him a summary of the speech.

The questioner : ... I raise my voice again ... finished.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you. What language is this babbling in?

The questioner : English.

The Shaykh : English.

The questioner : I want to take the role of some of the brothers, I mean, asking only two questions, if Allah wills. If there are some people in those countries who raise shining banners claiming to be Salafis, because Salafism obliges them to deal with politics, what is the extent of the Salafis' dealing with politics, like our brother Suroor and others and others?

The Shaykh : We say with their words, but we do not act with their deeds. The reason is that I believe that the Muslims, as I said earlier, in their first awakening, and after they have matured in their understanding of Islam correctly, let alone that they have not been raised Islamically at all, except for scattered individuals in the Islamic world. If these two conditions are not met, political work returns harm to the Islamic call. Imagine now, some of the known groups, with their partisanship and blocs for decades, from time to time individuals and persons appear from them, whose goal from the party bloc is to exploit the party to reach positions and chairs. And this does not meet with the correct Islamic upbringing, because we have said and we still say that the work must be pure for the sake of Allah, for His face alone. From that, the call; from that, politics. If the call is for politics, to become a head of state, or to become a minister of state, or close to this minister, and so on, then these policies are doomed to failure beforehand. And this is the reality. The reality testifies that these policies have not benefited the Islamic world at all!
The Shaykh : And so I said in some of the interrogations, when we were tested there by the intelligence and their interrogations, I said to them what I worship Allah with, after I explained to them that politics is part of the religion, and we have Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who authored his treatise on legitimate politics. But I believe that we today, from politics, have left politics. Those who call for political work, in my belief, are destroying their houses with their own hands. Because the call that they established in these days and long years, and they were able to gather a group of youth around them on the Salafi creed, and I do not say on the Salafi upbringing, these will soon be scattered by turning to political work. Therefore, we say with their words, but we do not act with their deeds. Because, and this is the summary of the answer: whoever hastens a thing before its time is afflicted with deprivation.
