The Shaykh : I once mentioned the story of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari with 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud. As you know, Abu Musa was among the reciters of the Companions, and he had the voice of Dawud. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) testified to that for him by saying Sunan an-Nasa'i 1021Sahih (Darussalam). He was among the callers and scholars whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent to Yemen to call the people of Yemen, who were lost between polytheism and Christianity, to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The Messenger (peace be upon him) sent him along with a group of his noble Companions to call to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) because of his knowledge and virtue. This noble Companion relates to us that one of the Tabi'un said: Abu Musa came one morning to the house of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) and found some of his Companions waiting for him. He asked, "Has Abu 'Abd al-Rahman come out?" They said, "No." So he sat with them until he came out. He immediately addressed him, saying, "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, I just saw something in the mosque that I disliked, and I have not seen anything but good, praise be to Allah." He said, "What did you see?" He said, "If you live, you will see it. I saw people in circles, and in the middle of each circle was a man saying to those around him, 'Glorify Allah thus, praise Allah thus, magnify Allah thus.' And in front of each man were pebbles with which he counted the glorification, magnification, and praise." He said, "Did you not disapprove of them? Did you not order them to count their sins and guarantee that nothing of their good deeds would be lost?" Here is the point. He said, "No, I was waiting for your command or waiting for your opinion." Here is the point, O our Salafi brothers, may Allah be pleased with you, if Allah wills.
We are in a gathering that brings together three or four of us, and one asks a question, directing it toThe Shaykh : Al-Albani, whom they are afflicted with and who is afflicted with them! The question was directed to Al-Albani, and when he was about to take the answer, look at the difference now. A noble Companion, a great scholar, did not disapprove of this thing until he took your opinion, whereas a small child—I do not say a small child, but a small student of knowledge, still on the verge of maturity, meaning on the... who has not understood but some of the issues—imagines that he has an answer. At least he does not ask for permissionThe Shaykh : from the so-called one. Oh, allow me, let me try my state. Am I understanding or not? No, he immediately launches out and answers. What is this compared to that? There is a great difference between them. The reason is not strange at all! We do not have shaykhs who educate; we do not have... we have some individuals who have some knowledge, and I am one of them, and that is all! Therefore, the responsibility on the youth, on the true Salafi Muslim, returns to two matters. The first is that he understands his Islam with a correct understanding, and the other is that he educates himself on this Islam. And Islam is not only worship, where we know, for example, that when we enter the prayer, there is no such philosophy spoken by those afflicted with sectarian rigidity, "I intend to pray to Allah the Exalted," and so on, nor is it only that he places his hands on his chest, and so on. But there is the humility which is the spirit of worship, the spirit of prayer, as he (peace be upon him) said,Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:249. All of this is part of Islam. We call to complete Islam, so we call for not being Sufis who exaggerate in asceticism and gentleness, where the asceticism leads to the negation of the means that Allah has prescribed for His servants.
Humility leads to dropping the enjoining of good and forbidding of evil on the basis of gentleness and the like. If we are calling to the middle path that Islam brought, we must not forget ourselves to be adorned with the morals of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said that wonderful hadith,Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:249. So as for those whom you referred to, I ask Allah for them and for us complete guidance. As for our position toward them, these are sick people who must be treated with wisdom, good admonition, and argument in the best manner.
This man has been given a Mizmar among the Mazamir of the family of Dawud, peace be upon him.
