The response to those who say that entering parliament is a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.

The questioner : Some people attribute to the likes ofThe Shaykh : (may Allah preserve him)The Shaykh : 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Baz, andThe Shaykh : Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah preserve them all) that entering these parliaments is a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils. They say that if the Muslims, who are sinners and innovators, do not enter, they will gain a majority, and there will be great harm to the Muslims. So, according to this fatwa, is entering this parliament a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils?
The Shaykh : That is their assumption, and I had hoped it would be the assumption of a believer. But the reality, unfortunately, is that first, since the Muslim Brotherhood innovated the practice of entering parliament with this same justification, we have found no benefit whatsoever from such entry, other than supporting the parliament, maintaining its course, and enforcing its rulings that contradict the Shari'ah. I do not deny that there may be some benefit, but this benefit is not fundamental. It is like a disease that is deeply rooted in the patient's heart and has effects on his body; it is treated with some ointments and painkillers, yet we rarely see this. As for treating the disease and uprooting it from its source, experience is the greatest proof, my brothers. How long will we continue to make this claim? Some Islamic groups have been trying their luck for decades, and we say, "We are sorry." We are now in a temporary and recent experiment, and it is sufficient for a person to take a lesson from it. Yes. Therefore, I repeat: they are advised to adhere to the plan of knowledge. And guiding a man by your hand is more beloved to me than red camels.
Al-Halali: May Allah reward you with good, O our teacher.
