The ruling on praying in sheep pens.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We are continuing the previous issue, Professor.

The Shaykh : We have nothing on this.

The questioner : But for example, some points: if one prays in sheep pens, for instance, does it indicate more than permissibility?

The Shaykh : As I understand it, it indicates the preferred permissibility that is desired.

The questioner : It indicates recommendation.

The Shaykh : Yes, because regarding praying in sheep pens, we have only the original ruling, which is that it permits prayer
And I have made the earth a mosque and a place of purity for you, so whenever a man is overtaken by prayer, his mosque and place of purity are with him. وجعلت لكم الأرض مسجدا وطهورا فأيما رجل أدركته الصلاة فعنده مسجده وطهوره
But this command to pray in sheep pens draws attention to the fact that this involves humbling the soul of the arrogant person who usually considers himself too high to pray in such places. So there is a type of self-discipline here. It appears to me, and Allah knows best, that this command indicates more than the original ruling, which is permissibility; it indicates recommendation.

The questioner : Does he intend to pray there?

The Shaykh : No, no, he does not intend to pray there; rather, he does not feel hesitant to pray in that place and does not search for another place.
Musa Nasr: Our Shaykh, especially if he is a shepherd.

The Shaykh : Especially, yes.
