Some parents curse their children; what is the recompense for that? And what is your advice to them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some parents curse their children; what is the recompense for that? And what is your advice to them?

The Shaykh : Cursing children falls into two categories:
The first category is when it is intentional and the heart is set on it. This is not permissible, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Abusing a Muslim is an outrage and fighting against him is unbelief سباب المسلم فسوق وقتاله كفر
Sahih Muslim 64a
except if there is a dire necessity or a pressing need that calls for it, in which case only what the need or necessity calls for is permissible.
The second category is when it occurs unintentionally and without intent, but it slips off the tongue without purpose. This is considered idle talk for which the servant is not held accountable, but he should purify his tongue from it. This often happens with women who curse their children with death, torment, breaking, illness, and the like, but without intent. We know for certain that they hate it intensely if what they curse with were to happen to their son, but this happens without intent. A person is not punished for this, but he should purify his tongue from it.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
