What is the ruling on one who prays while committing a sin, such as shaving the beard or letting the garment hang below the ankles?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, what is the ruling on one who prays while committing a sin, and I specifically mean letting the garment hang below the ankles and shaving the beard?

The Shaykh : He is both obedient and disobedient.

The questioner : What is the ruling on his prayer?

The Shaykh : Either he is obedient or he is disobedient.
Al-Halabi : He is obedient in his prayer and disobedient in his sin.

The questioner : You mean his prayer is valid?

The Shaykh : Certainly, if he fulfills its conditions and pillars. What do you say about a man who is praying when a woman passes in front of him and he looks at her? Is his prayer invalid?

The questioner : Satan stole it from him.

The Shaykh : I answered you just now, and you were not satisfied with my answer until I clarified the question. So his prayer is valid, otherwise it is invalid. We told you it is valid. Now we are returning your question to you, and the implication of your words is: "This is our merchandise returned to us." Is his prayer valid or not?

The questioner : By Allah, I am not worthy of answering, because some scholars, as I recall, said that in itself, regarding letting the garment hang below the ankles, it invalidates his prayer.

The Shaykh : If it is regarding letting the garment hang below the ankles and other things?

The questioner : They distinguished, I do not know.

The Shaykh : They distinguished between what and what?

The questioner : They distinguished between letting the garment hang below the ankles and other things?

The Shaykh : If so, you have established the proof against yourself.
Abu Malik : But we ask our brother Abu 'Abdullah, which is more severe and sinful: for a person to carry a bottle of intoxicants and pray with it, or to let his garment hang below the ankles?

The questioner : He carries a bottle of intoxicants.
Al-Halabi : Shaykh, I anticipate that the point our brother mentioned has a place in what you have repeatedly referred to, regarding these who distinguish relying on a weak hadith, which is "There is no prayer for one who lets his garment hang below the ankles." So from here they came, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : And that is the case, and therefore they specified letting the garment hang below the ankles as invalidating.
Mashhur : The position of the Ibadis is that the prayer of one who lets his garment hang below the ankles is invalid.

The Shaykh : The Ibadis have no weight.
