Clarification that seeking knowledge is superior to the regular voluntary prayers and other voluntary acts of worship

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And benefits are missed by doing so. Seeking knowledge and voluntary prayers: a person has a habit of praying whatever voluntary prayers he wishes between Maghrib and 'Isha'. He is given the opportunity to attend a session of knowledge from which he benefits and from which others benefit afterward. So, does he stick to the voluntary prayers, or does he attend the session of knowledge? Which is better? Yes, the session of knowledge is better than the voluntary prayers, because the benefit of voluntary prayers is specific to the individual, whereas seeking knowledge is general, benefiting him and others, if Allah grants him success in spreading the knowledge he has learned. A person should observe this principle. As for the obligatory acts, they remain in their place; they cannot be altered from the manner in which Allah has made them obligatory. However, voluntary acts sometimes differ in degree of merit, and when they are equal, one returns to the original practice in every matter. That is fine.
