The obligation of scholars to clarify matters for the common people and teach them that supplicating to the dead is shirk (associating partners with Allah)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And if that is the case, it is obligatory for the scholars of the Muslims, among whose common people there are those who go to the graves to supplicate to their occupants, it is obligatory for the scholars of the Muslims to clarify to them that this is shirk (associating partners with Allah) and that this shirk is not accepted with any worship, neither prayer nor charity nor fasting nor Hajj (the major pilgrimage), until a person is sincere to Allah alone. If a man came to the Prophet’s Mosque and he was afflicted with poverty—do you know what poverty is? What is poverty? It is destitution—and he came to the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began to supplicate to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to relieve him of this poverty, what would he be? Answer, O people! He would be a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) does not approve of that; he does not approve of anyone coming to his grave and saying, “O Messenger of Allah, save me from this poverty.” In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
When a man came to him and said to him: What Allah wills and what you will لما جاءه رجل وقال له : ما شاء الله وشئت
What Allah wills and what you will ما شاء الله وشئت
Sunan Ibn Majah 2117Hasan (Darussalam)
coupled the will of the Messenger with the will of Allah with a letter that implies equality
What Allah wills and what you will ما شاء الله وشئت
Sunan Ibn Majah 2117Hasan (Darussalam)
What did the Messenger say to him? Yes, he said:
Have you made me equal to Allah? What Allah wills alone أجعلتني لله ندا؟
And this is a rhetorical question of denial
You have put an equal with Allah. It is what Allah alone wills. أجعلتني لله ندا ما شاء الله وحده
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 783
It is what Allah alone wills. ما شاء الله وحده
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 783
So, O my brothers, in whom do we place our hope? In Allah. Upon whom do we rely?
The student: Upon Allah.

The Shaykh : In whom do we place our hope in repelling what harms us? Allah. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
Say, "In whose hand is the realm قل من بيده ملكوت السماوات والأرض
[Al-Mu'minun 23:88]
And He, the Exalted, said:
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion تبارك الذي بيده الملك
[Al-Mulk 67:1]
And the verses on this matter are numerous, that the matter is the matter of Allah. So, O my brother, O my Muslim brother, O my believing brother, O my sensible brother, how do you supplicate to a man who yesterday was like you, who ate as you eat and drank as you drink and went hungry as you go hungry and fell ill as you fall ill, and when he fell ill he would go to the doctor and say, “Treat me,” is that not so? How do you now, after he has become a corpse, come and supplicate to him? Is this from intellect, O my brothers? Is this from intellect? Is this from intellect? No, let alone from faith.
