Seeking Refuge, the Basmala, and Reciting al-Fatihah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he seeks refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan, saying: "I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan." If he adds "from his whispering, his blowing, and his spitting," there is nothing wrong with it. Then he recites the Basmala: "In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate." Then he recites al-Fatihah completely, with its verses, its letters, and its vowel movements. How many emphatic letters are in it? I mean, how many emphatic letters are there? Count how many emphatic letters are in the word. Is there anything? There is nothing emphatic. It does not appear to me that the one who said there is nothing emphatic knows what an emphatic letter is at all. Say, my brother, two.
The student: Five.

The Shaykh : Three

The Shaykh : Five. Let us see now. Alhamdulillah: one. Rabb al-'alamin: two. How? Two. Ar-Rahman: three. Ar-Rahim: four. Malik yawm ad-din: five. Iyyaka na'bud: six. And iyyaka nasta'in: seven. Ihdina as-sirat: eight. As-sirat, yes. Al-mustaqim: the sirat of those: those, nine. Good. Alladhina an'amta 'alayhim: ten. Ghayr al-maghdubi 'alayhim: eleven. Wa la ad-dallin: the dhalin has two emphatics, in the dhad and in the lam. So the total is eleven emphatics in Surat al-Fatihah. Good. The scholars said: If one leaves out a single emphatic, it is not valid. So if he says: "Ihdina, yes, sirat alladhina." If he says "sirat ladhina," it is not valid. If he says "Alhamdulillah, Rabb al-'alamin, Rabb al-'alamin," it is not valid. Why? Because the emphatic letter is from two letters, so if he leaves out the emphasis, this means he left out a letter from these two letters. One recites al-Fatihah completely with its letters, its words, its vowel movements, and its emphatics. It is a pillar of the prayer, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab. لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam)
So it is necessary to recite it in the obligatory prayer and in the voluntary prayer, for the imam, the one praying behind him, and the one praying alone. Because the hadiths reported in this regard are general, and there is no exception in them. And what comes as general in the Book and the Sunnah, it is obligatory to take it in its generality, except with evidence indicating specification.
