Is the Basmala a verse of al-Fatihah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, may Allah forgive you: Is the Basmala a verse in al-Fatihah?

The Shaykh : The Basmala is not a verse in al-Fatihah, nor in any other surah; rather, it is an independent verse. It is numbered in the mushaf as part of al-Fatihah, but that is the weaker opinion. The correct view is that the beginning of al-Fatihah is
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds - الحمد لله رب العالمين
[Al-Fatihah 1:2]
, as established in the authentic hadith of Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that Allah said:
I have divided the Salat between Myself and My slaves into two halves قسمت الصلاة بيني وبين عبدي نصفين
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2953Sahih (Darussalam)
, mentioning al-Fatihah but not mentioning the Basmala.
